Hi,

I want to order some parts to build my first Atari Punk Console. I've seen plenty of schematics and parts lists, and searched here and elsewhere on the web, but I can't find anything about which type of taper for the potentiometers sound/feel the most natural. Anybody have any experience?

While on the subject of potentiometer tapers, I've seen some schematics that use the A/B notation and then several references that note what the taper letter designations mean. Some say it is based on being Japanese or European and others say it is based on being the newer or older designations. Is one of those designation assignments really predominant these days? For instance, when I go to http://www.beavisaudio.com/Projects/CMOS_Synthesizers/Heterodyne-Peyote-Space-Explorer.png can I generally assume that the B10Ks are linear and A100Ks are log (or vice-versa)?

Thanks for your time,
Dorkface

Well, I pretty much only use linear taper. The audio ones are usually pricy and don't give you that much difference in sound. I mean, there are other means to smooth the pot out anyway. Neither will result in anything that is "more natural" however... APC's are unholy unnatural beasts. Very Happy
