[17:36] iSteve What do you think of people who program shows having a list of shorties/fillers which the scheduler points to for their specific show?

It has to do with having scheduled playlist shows.
(1) As of the last time I looked, if someone has a show of music and the next song won't fit, the playlist apparatus selects a song from a default list. So, if there is a tribal ambient music show on, a glitch tune might play. Or if there is a show featuring a specific artist's music, someone else's music might be played. A show programmer might not want that. So I asked if it would be possible to have a show programmer selectable default alternate list for each scheduled playlist. That list can contain short tunes to be substituted that fit the theme of the show/playlist.
(2) It also occurred to me that it might be nice to have (a) a list of show/playlist intros and (b) a list of show/playlist outtros such that one intro plays when the show/playlist starts and one outtro plays when the show/playlist is over.
There are also issues with the playlist pointer being updated at various points, but that's much more complicated to explain.
Hope that explains my original post. Basically, I ran some ideas by Jan in the chat room and he suggested I post them. So I did. |

Coming from a background in radio (albeit college radio), I was thinking it might be nice if different people hosted different playlist shows with different electro-music styles/genres/interests/etc. I seem to recall this kind of thing being discussed in chat.
For example, it might draw regular audiences (beyond the core of regulars) if there was a regularly scheduled chip music oriented playlist show at a regular time (or at several regular times for the benefit of different time zones across the globe), or maybe even a streaming station [port] devoted to themed scheduled playlists.
So, my suggestions were along those lines.
However, it seems that general playlist plus scheduled live shows and special events works just fine given the nature of the listenership. And Rob is doing an excellent job (so far as I can tell) maintaining and updating the general playlist--lots of high quality variety programmed with a nice sense of balance.
So, "if its not broke, don't fix it!" (Just thought I'd clarify the original post, in case someone stumbles onto it and wonders what it was all about in the first place.)
