Okay so I've decided I want to start building a modular synth. So far, I think the most cost efficient kits I've found have been on the PAiA website. I'm trying to get a feel for what modules I should by first, and I was planning on building my own case.

I think i'm gonna start out with a power supply, a midi to cv, a and vco module.

With my limited knowledge of electronics and how modular synths are built, i'm having trouble imagining how I'm going to power the modules. Once I've learned a little more and gathered up some more money I think I'll be ready.

I was just looking for suggestions on how to get started, maybe different modules, and websites.

welcome

We have a number of sub-fora here for projects from particular designers - Juergen Haible, YuSynth, Fonik, Thomas Henry, Ken Stone, Rob Hordijk and MFOS (Ray Wilson).

IMO, if you're just getting off the ground, PAiA is a good bet for getting your sea-legs. I think another indispensable site particularly when taking the first plunge would have to be Ray Wilson's Music From Outer Space (MFOS):

http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/mfosweb/home.action

Once you grok all of that, and you start building, you can branch out to all sorts of cool stuff.

Good luck!
Scott

+1 for MFOS. Ray's projects provided a very nice start for me...

Have fun & welcome!

+1 MFOS. Though I've also had great customer support from PAIA.
