Dear G2 community, dear fellow G2 users and friends,

Some of you have taken notice of me mentioning a groundbreaking new patch -which I have finally published just now (see link below). It's, by a very long stretch, the most ambitious thing I've ever done, the most complex thing, the most frustrating thing (many times) -and the most time-consuming. It has actually taken me over month of my free time to make it fly. And there is a reason for all that, which is that I am finally moving on and will sell of my G2Xs. As an algorithm designer, I've definitely grown out of the G2 system, and for live use I've found something more suitable to my needs.

Ten years ago I was barely patching sawtooth oscillators into lowpass filters and couldn't grasp the mystery of a DC offset Laughing. As time went by I learned a tremendous amount from many people here, for which I am eternally grateful. So I decided to give it my absolute best shot and make the most ambitious patch I possibly can, containing all tricks and techniques I've ever come up with -as a goodbye present to this great community of which I have had the pleasure of being a member for so long.

The patch is to be found here:
http://www.electro-music.com/forum/topic-64110.html

best,
Tim

PS: I intend to sell of my two G2Xs locally, as shipping abroad has always been troublesome (Switzerland is not in the EU). But if somebody here is interested and has an idea how to pull this off without hassles, please PM me. Although being used a lot, they are in great condition, as I have taken good care of them (they both have custom-made hardcases).

A G2 authority is lost! I will miss your exposees, deep in the bowels of the g2, even though most of that stuff went over my head. It would be nice to hear something about your new projects with exciting, more powerful stuff! Smile

So sad to hear you are going. I have used several of your deeper patches in my work and I am constantly amazed at what you have done with this synth. Listening to your final patch now and damn, that is amazing. Happy patching!

Tim, you've done excellent job. Thank you for being an admirable specialist.

Could you make a list of G2 1.6 OS bugs for future users (and maybe bugfixers) as a farewell present? I think this is what this community should give. I found no such list while browsing the forum.

A very important change here for all of us, who admire your work! Sad news for the G2 itself, if a master like you decide not to use it anymore.
Thank you very very much for having shared those 215 incredible patches, your low level tricks, building blocks, so many informations about anything...this knowledge and your jazz musician profile arouse interest for your decisions. I'm very curious to know which programming/gigging gear you've chosen. Is it indiscrete? I'll go on following your designs and musical projects, if you let us know.

All the best
Xavier

Thanks everybody for your kind words. I really feel touched -and also a bit bad Embarassed for jumping ship soon. But my understanding of DSP has grown to the point where I keep bumping into the limitations of the G2 constantly. Of course I enjoy the challenge of getting seemingly impossible things to work nevertheless, eg. real anti-aliasing for DIY oscillators of any kind (probably what I'm proud of most, because for many years I thought it was absolutely impossible). I'd continue to tackle more of these things if I'd still be using the G2 for my live or studio work. But in the studio I've been using Reaktor and would like to go deeper into it. And for live performance I've found a hardware synth that suits my needs better.

I'm constantly learning more about DSP (there's a polyphase FIR filter in the goodbye present) and the limitations of the G2 system have stopped being a fun challenge and more of an annoying hindrance for further growth (the FIR doesn't work way as good as it should because of the G2 numerical system). All this DSP stuff is only a (highly instructive and rewarding) hobby anyway, as by profession I'm a performing musician and producer.

As already stated, ten years ago I started as an absolute noob. I learned a tremendous amount from many people here who were generous with their time, knowledge and fantastic patches. I feel honored that I could give something back, and my contributions are of use to fellow G2 users.

The electro-music.com community in general, and the G2 community here in particular, is unique in its atmosphere of courtesy, fraternity, respect and mutual support. I'll always keep sticking around here.

cheers,
t

can't thank you enough for all your patches, Tim.
They opened up a lot of possibilities and are absolutely essential for anyone interested in the experimental sound design aspects of the G2.

...and good luck with Reaktor! it's a very deep system with much more room to grow than the G2.

i'm sure you'll enjoy pushing it to it's limits and i look forward to seeing what you come up with over on the Reaktor forums!.
