Calendar Event: June 19, 2004 Brainstatik to Perform Free Concert
at Crosswicks Community House
Brainstatik ( www.brainstatik.com ) performs their blend of original instrumental improvisational progressive rock to kick off the Crosswicks Summer Music Festival at the Crosswicks Community House, Main Street in Crosswicks, NJ on Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 8:00 p.m. (doors open at 7:00 p.m.) Brainstatik's music has been described as improvisational electro-ambient world spacemusic.
"Brainstatik sounds like an orchestra being led by a slightly deranged conductor or soundtrack music for a movie you've never seen," says co-founder Robert Burger. "All that listeners need to bring with them are open ears and open minds. If you give it a chance, the music can transport you somewhere special."
The band's lineup includes:
Co-founder Robert Burger, an illustrator based in Stockton, NJ plays guitar and guitar-synthesizer. Burger studied guitar for six years with renowned jazz guitarist Harry Leahy. Burger's solo project "The Gak Omek" has just been signed to Fossil Records, who are distributing "The Gak Omek o Alien Eye" CD. Visit www.thegakomek for more information.
Co-founder Ken Palmer, an art director at Bloomberg and resident of Crosswicks, NJ plays synthesizers. He is the founder and host of the Cosmic Coffeehouse ( www.cosmiccoffeehouse.org ), a bi-monthly event that showcases unique local musicians. He previously played keyboards and guitar in the bands E. Echo-K and Liquid Idiot.
Glenn Robitaille, a resident of Dunellen, NJ plays acoustic and electronic drums. He previously played drums for Solar Circus, The Callipygian Blues Band, and Gangster Clairvoyants. He is a senior technical staff member at Raritan Technologies in South Plainfield, NJ.
Mike Hunter of Trenton, NJ plays the 12 string Warr touch guitar and 6 string electric. He also plays with South Jersey based Irish traditional/celtic rock group, The Stone Soup Band, as well as his solo ambient drone music under the "Ombient" moniker.
Jim Silvestri of Wood-Ridge NJ has been playing bass for 30 years. Jim started his musical career with the classic rock band Rushlight in the late 70's. He also appeared with The John Michel Orchestra, The Stardreamers, The All Star Jazz Orchestra and was a founding member of the progressive rock band Ghosts on the Skyline.
Robert J. Burger and Ken Palmer formed the band in 1995, shortly after they met at a meeting of the Princeton Macintosh Users Group. For the past nine years they've recorded and performed completely improvised and spontaneously composed instrumental music . Their sound has been influenced by everything from progressive rock to world and ethnic music.
This concert will mark the fifth summer in a row that Brainstatik will perform in Crosswicks. The annual event is sponsored by the Crosswicks Community Association, which will sell drinks and snacks during the show to raise money toward the upkeep of the Crosswicks Community House.
Live music and dance continues in Crosswicks for the entire weekend of June 19-20. After Brainstatik's performance on Saturday evening, the music continues on Sunday with an afternoon of live Irish bands and celtic dancers. The Crosswicks Community House is located on Main Street in Crosswicks, NJ. Admission for Saturday's concert is free. The event is open all ages.
