I hadn't heard of this z3ta before, so I searched the net and found these sound demos here: http://www.rgcaudio.com/z3ta+.htm

Adim's link to his .mp3 didn't work, but I have to say that the above demos didn't sound anywhere near as good as some of the performances posted here (to my ears anyway) and certainly nothing that the G2 couldn't do.

But as someone said, different people like different things.

By the way, I loved those performance/.mp3 Ian/Dasz... sweet sound! Smile

I tried that plugin long time ago, someone told me that it was incredible (in a thread related to the PLG150-AN card for my Motif ES). I just installed the demo, listened to some patches, made one myself, and uninstalled it.

It has a LOT of aliasing, which disturbs me greatly. One of the things I really love about my G2 is that the square and the saw waveforms do not have aliasing (unless they pass through some modules). I simply can't stand digital aliasing, although analog noise doesn't disturb me. Call me freak.

Anything can sound great if you pass it through some effects. By the way, let me share this little patch with you all, I have made it just some hours ago. I still get amazed of what can be done with only one DSP.

This is not the kind of music I usually do, but when patching with the G2 I feel possessed! MWAHAHA!

Thanks Albert.

It never occurred to me to try the reverb on 0ms, what an interesting effect.

Ian, coming from it's a great compliment, you're a master!

Let me share some of my incomplete "pain" series of sounds, based on compressor and reverb modules. I'm about to ask for a monophonic compressor in the wish list.

Sorry I missed the other files, here they are. I use always headphones, so those patches may sound very bad on monitors.

No, they sound great, fresh.

I think a lot of the 'G2 character' people talk about comes from the conventional use of the chorus and rev modules.

Rob hasn't been on the board that much lately so I think I'll gossip you some.

First of all; I have a prototype here. Mine is a about twice as large as the ones that would be for sale (but it's mine and I love it Smile ). It sounds absolutely marvelous, not in a 909-"in your face" big way but more like something subtle to use after you sat back and deeply considered your mix and what it needs. It's a niche -specialist- thing in a way but it's a niche thing that can shine in a wide veriety of applications, I used it to fine-tune the sound of large clubs, for placing a instrument just right and for mastering as well; it's good at those. It's also good at being forgotten in a corner next to your mixing desk and only being noticed once it's accidentally turned off.

It's true that it got delayed rather heavily but you could also say it was more like the design matured or ripend. It's now small enough to fit into any laptop bag which I think is a very good size for it to be (let's not point fingers or name names, you know what I mean).

Right now I think the final implementation is being finished so I think (I can't make promises for Rob...) that a very attractive deal should be anounced in the near future. As I understand it this would be a fairly small print-run (can you use that word for gear?) so if you want it it would be good to pay atention.

Oh, and to make matters worse; last night I also got to hear Rob's newest design. It's analogue too and it sounds amazing as well. I have to live up to the trust placed in me and keep my mouth shut, I would just like to share that these are exciting days, especially if you're into pleasantly expressive spectra.

Sorry to tease like that.

Albert, I like this idea. I've done a quick mod, so the output from the compressor feeds back into the circuit for even more attitude (see attach) ...

I agree -- and every one has bag of certain tricks to make the G2 sound their own.

Thank you Dasz, I find 0.0 revtime much more rich in the stereo field than the "boring" chorus effect, at least with headphones. It's standard in my patch experiments. I find the compressor extremely useful too, for example to slowly "normalize" audio level between some modules, that's why I would find useful to have a much more DSP friendly mono compressor to be used in the VA area.

Your patch sounds really scary to me, I nearly got goose bumps! The second variation is empty, but just switching between var1 and var2 sometimes (without the sequencer RUNning) makes creepy sounds that I really like.

I'm learning a lot from this machine everyday. Although I bought a Virus C to have some good preset sounds and different VA character, I find the G2 to be an indispensable tool to make really unique and one's own sounds.

Exactly what I was thinking, including the "without the sequencer running" part Very Happy

And I liked your patches as well.

I only tweaked variation1. The feedback is interesting but can get out of control (which is why the compressor is a good thing in the loop).

I've used feedback loops to create very sick sounding resonance in filters, and I'm using it in the DSI Evolver (which has 3 types of feedback) to give it's filter more grit.

Feedback is always good and welcome (pun intended) Smile

Error? Bug?

I like playing with your patch Dasz, and the Wheel morphs make some really nice sounds. I took your patch and put it through the Patch Mutator, just to fill in the other variations, 5 is interesting to me. Even more so, the comb and phase effects that occur when you are *moving* the wheel.

So I added an LFO to the FX area, so the morph would keep moving (LFO > MIDI CC Send). And I see the Morph moving in the editor, but I can only Hear moving effects while I'm actually moving the wheel. The LFO seems to have no effect. Is this a bug, or bad implementation? I'd like to hear from both Engine and other Key users, wondering if the Engine guys are missing out on something!

Ahhhhh. If I change the first morph to a "knob" it works. Can't have both MIDI and Wheel control!

Which makes me think, it'd be nice to have the Morph control panel show up when you select "Morph" on the keyboard, but are not in the parameter pages (ie- while viewing patch settings, then select Morph, you'd see all 8 morphs with buttons to select morph source).

edit (jk*) : I need to spend more time with the interface and less staring at the PC! press "Patch" and you get all 8 morphs instantly.

Today I feel somewhat inspired, let me share some variations of the painres_room patch. There are 5 different variations in this one. I have had fun playing with the filter auto oscillation Razz

Unfortunately, those of you who use headphones will notice the residual noise coming from the reverb and the delay. Sad

Is that the reason you used a noise gate in some of the previous ones ?

OOooohh dorremifasol, In that last one you posted, Var. 3 has some nice "Las Vegas" to it. Or maybe a game show "it's the Daily Double Question" kinda sound.

oh no, not another patch for the set Sad -- it's called DoReMee_DZ. Thanks to DoReMiFaSol for the inspiration.

I do feel quite guilty that I can't post it ... but it is for the set Sad

so I will post the mp3

Yes, I suffer very much with that residual noise (16 bit quantization errors maybe?), it's one of my few complaints about the G2. :/

Guess what, I don't know anything about "Las Vegas" but I would be extremely impressed if I had done something different and original Razz too many people doing the same for so many time!

Dasz, the mp3 is impressive, but I don't understand that about "the set", what is it?

Don't know what it is, but it is there for real and many complain about it.
