lead 1 (with 2 expansion) questions |
|
|
Hi,
I recently bought a lead 1 with the 2.0 expansion. Very wonderful synth.
Can the keyboard be split (other than the rhythm sets)? I believe the actual lead 2 can do this. I found nothing in the manual.
Any comments on the whole 1 versus 2 versus 3 output convertors discussions? The lead 1 sounds great to me. lead 2 features are tempting. Would I loose the lead 1 sound? |

The Nord Lead 2 keyboard can be split into two sections. It's on Page 14 of the manual. I guess the Nord Lead didn't have this function....Clavia would have put it in the manual if it did. They're pretty good about the info in their manuals.
Anyway, there's been a lot of discussions on various forums about which one is better...or sounds better...the 1, the 2, or the 3 but the bottom line is that all three are great instruments and all three have something unique to offer. The original Nord broke the VA barrier back in '96, the 2 added new features and knobs(Like the FM knob....which I love and use more than the filter cutoff ) and the 3 added LED rotary encoders(I wish my 2 had that ). Some swear that the 2 sounds best of all but these of course are opinions... I only have my 2 so I can't compare it to the others really. If you have the 2.0 expansion you're all set. I'll say this....I wouldn't mind having one of the originals around! _________________ Apple Mac Pro 3.1 2.88 GHz. Intel Xeon Quad

That's not completely true...
The Lead1 was the one which introduced FM to a VA.

This is classic “deep linear FM” as used in pure FM-based synthesizers. The FM function is a bit of depart from the “analog” concept of the Nord Lead 2, but as you will find, it is a very useful addition.
In this FM implementation, OSC1 is being modulated by OSC 2. In FM speak, OSC 1 is the carrier and OSC 2 is the modulator. This, means that changing the pitch of OSC2 basically does not affect the pitch of the sound, but the timbre. |
