Subject description: Nord Lead 2 preset needed!
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

After selling my NL2 I'm having trouble re-creating one of the presets on my micro modular.

It was preset 88 on the NL2, ring modulation was prominent in the sound. Is there a patch ready made out there or can/can't it be done with the micro modular? Any help appreciated.
Cheers

Unfortunately no factory presets are ever converted to the Nord Modular Classic.

At the other hand...
Are you sure it was preset 88?
In the factory presets (and 41 to 99 are all fixed!) no Ring modulator was ever used.

yes, it was one of the fixed patches in the nord lead 2, pretty sure it was 88. The sound was effected in some way by the ring mod (or could it have been the ring mod knob as it had a few other functions?).
The sound can be found on Autechre Incunabula album in the track Mafti, it's the short stab lead sound throughout the track.

Hi,

Here a picture of the settings of the NordLead2 preset 0088 English Horn.

As you can see a rather simple sound, in fact just using a single oscillator (Mix completely to the left) in Triangle wave form. The second Oscillator comes in controlled by the Velocity [0 > 103]. Most of the sound is created by the FM (Osc2 > Osc1) [setting 57], which has a Velocity shift by [29], so [57 > 86]. The last Velocity sensitive parameter is the Gain [54 > 107].
Oscillator 2 is set at [36], which means two octaves UNDER Oscillator 1 Smile

Using a HighPass Filter 24 dB the settings are Cut-Off [28], Resonance [28] and no Filter Envelope, so these parameters aren't important.

Amplifier Envelope Attack [38], Decay [126], which is rather long, so I wonder why the sound designer hadn't used the Sustain, which is now [0] instead...

The Modulation Wheel seems to be hopeless to use. It's in the audio file at the end, after the Velocity examples.

Hope it all works Smile

Wout

http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/020_NordLead2/023_Miscellaneous/NordGenerator_Editor/

It's about six or seven years on the net now.

There are some 'bugs' in the tool, but if you know what there's life after that. The parameters are alright, for sure. The tool is only for Windows.

The problem is NordGenerator creates banks, so each patch loaded into the program will be added to the bank, which can be saved on the harddisc. Normally a patch is 139 bytes (!!!), so one added gives 278 bytes and so on. All this will be saved! At the end some sounds on my disk appears to be over 50 Mb large!!!

The work around is: after creating the Program on the synth it will be send to NordGen [Shift+Dump One]. NordGen is only 167 Kb and is pasted into the folder I'm working at that moment. The tool will contain two Programs now and is 278 bytes large. In 'Files' I give the command 'Explode Bank' and both files will be presented in the folder as 'nord0.ngf' and 'nord1.ngf'. The latter is the real file, the first one just 'all zero' starting settings, which is deleted. The other file will be renamed and I also change it in *.syx, so it can be used into other tools, like CuBase.

Wout

PS the tool doesn't handle Performances, AFAIK.
