PM Q's |
 |
|
Is there any way to tell if you have replied to a message in your InBox? I sometimes forget. Most email programs show an arrow or something.
Is there any way to tell if a PM you have sent has been received? I have sent a couple of PM's to administrators recently that were never answered.
Thanks!

Apart from the inbox there also is a sentbox and an outbox. When you send a reply it will be placed in the outbox and when it is read it will move to the sentbox. Well actually it will move from out to sent when the receiver clicked on it ... maybe just to leave it for a later read and/or reply. _________________ Jan |

I see the messages in the sent box, but I don't see any indication whether they were replies to other messages.
I sent out two PMs on about Sept 24 that seem to have just disappeared. Was there a problem with the system in that time frame?
I'm also having a problem with receiving messages that were not intended for me, and in getting email notifications of messages received when there is nothing new in the inbox.

My experience with phpBB PM mechanics is that there is always a logical explanation for any of the behaviours it exhibits. Not that it makes intuitive sense, but once you understand how phpBB does things you gain understanding of the PM mechanisms.
Someone reading a message and not responding to it puts it in your sent box There is no mechanism to do "reply requested" or "record receipt" other than the message moves from outbox to sentbox. Also the damn things roll off, if you do not actively manage your PMs. You could lose conversations because of the chintzy quotas.
But I maintain, and I run a phpBB elsewhere, that 100% of these issues are explainable. It can simply be that the recipient has a popup blocker, and isn't noticing the "you have PMs" in the phpBB head page. Or they read it and didn't respond. PMs are suboptimal for many reasons. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Yes, I wish I would (could) have learned more about it before I started using it. I made a big mistake in managing some board sales through PMs and now I have lost most of my records because of the preposterous quotas.
Where is all this explained, anyway?

I have never found the Rosetta Stone of PMs, not on the phpBB site, or anywhere else. Maybe my Google-fu is weak, but I usually have good skillz there.
All I know is how it behaves, which is pretty simple minded. It's not a good email system, but it is private and local. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Not that I'm aware of.
