Question about Roland CSQ 100 |
|
|
Hello, I bought one of these a while ago without realizing they do not work with Arp or Yamaha synths. Does anyone know why or of a simple circuit I could make to interface it with my Yamaha. Seems to be only compatable with Roland and Oberheim and I've read Prophet. _________________ "your stripes are killer bro" |

Yes it's a CS 5, so thats HZ/V so I could use it with my Korg X-911 guitar synth huh? I have a music from outer space sequencer and I can control the yamaha with it. _________________ "your stripes are killer bro" |

the cs5 is a very nice sounding (and underrated) synth, imho.
the csq was supposed to work with the sh 101, which is v/oct and vtrig. most arps are the same as far as i know. if for some reason it takes an strig, you can find other threads that cover making a converter.

...also, the paia fatman is a reasonable midi/cv converter for the yamaha (and can feed the external input)...and a synth to boot!

Yes the yamaha does sound very nice. In the manual it doesn't say anything about hz/v. Hell I don't know maybe it's broke. _________________ "your stripes are killer bro" |

The CSQ simply doesn´t do hz/v. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

So do you reckon it is just a marketing thing when they say it is only compatible with Roland and Oberheim gear? I just can't get it to work with the CS-5. I can't get it calibrated Electro 80. When I hit the cali button the note "wavers" (vibrato like sound) and never actually calibrates. _________________ "your stripes are killer bro" |

read my other posts again...it will NOT work with the cs-5. if i remember correctly, the cs5 does use a vtrig (i might be mistaken), and you could fire the envelopes and extermal input with it, but the cv won't scale the oscillators or filter correctly.
the csq _should_ work with your arp, assuming your arp has cv/gate ins.

As said: The CS series is Hz/V and all Roland stuff is Oct/V, so it won´t work.
There is one piece of hardware that was made to bridge the gap between Korg/Yamaha and most-other-synths. It is the Korg MS-02, but they are rare. |

Take a ordinary expo, then add a inverting Op amp on the current out pin
of the NPN based expo, what you get are are a Oct Volt to Hz/Volt converter.
Now you can drive your CS5 with the CSQ100. |
