Hello all,

Well, I finally had it and decided to do something about all the wall warts that have been accumulating. In my set-up these obnoxious things are needed for my keyboard controller, Boss-600 recorder, Alesis Midiverb II, Behringer mixer, Casio CZ-1000 and CZ-101.

Naturally, these were taking up too many spots on the power strip.

So I bought three extension cords, cut them down to about 10 inches and spliced them. Now all six wall warts (which are pretty low current affairs in any event) can connect to a single outlet and keep out of the way of everything else. It also means that I can power up all of the devices with one flip of the power strip switch.

Total cost was $3.

And hey, I can't be responsible for any screw-ups on your end. Remember, this is 110VAC we're talking about. I insulated each of the two leads and encased the entire connection with heat shrink tubing. And be sure to keep the hot and neutral leads sorted out in case you plug anything else in these.

Hope this little tidbit tidies up your studio, too.

Thomas Henry

Neat! This is one of those "why didn't I think of that?" things.

This is a great idea. I had also been thinking of even getting rid of the wart power supplies all together and just making one power supply box with switchable "standard" voltages such as 9 and 12 volts, which is what all my gear seems to use. Right now, I have about 7 pieces of gear that use the warts so I could benefit from doing this.

For those who do not want to roll their own or feel uncomfortable doing this, these are available from Cyberguys.

Or if you want a pre-made solution, there's also the "Power Squid" with 5 'tentacles' available at Fry's (and others, I'm sure).

Pretty hard to beat for the price, but where's the fun in buying something you don't have to solder? Wink

Yes, I like this one even better. Unfortunately, I don't find soldering power cable very much fun Wink I would much rather be solder components on a PCB or at the very least, making my own custom data cables ............ Very Happy Very Happy

Yeah, if a person's going to do it, do it with a bunch of terminators. You probably can't tell from my crappy picture, but my unit can handle six wall warts at once. Each terminator is double-sided, which is the way extension cords come anymore.

Again, total cost was $3 and it took less than 5 minutes to make.
