newly released CD "vicissitunes"

samples of every track here: www.cdbaby.com/mnml3

more info on the CD & other stuff here: http://mnml.soulcatcher.net/vicissitunes.html

All these tracks were done at my home studio on a Serge Modular synthesizer during 2001-2003. No MIDI used whatsoever.

I spend hours or days refining & building new sounds on the Serge. If something sounds good I record it. If I can get several layers to work together it eventually becomes a finished track. Sometimes a synth patch will be flexible enough to use by itself without layering. I spend days practicing and feeling it out, then record it in realtime, sometimes adding effects (reverb etc), sometimes leaving it naked. But I'll only do this if the synth patch gives a very large variety of interesting sound textures.

The studio is a model of simplicity. I don't have racks of sexy gear (see above website for fotos). There's the Serge, a multitrack HD recorder, one digital reverb and a comp/limiter. To get the recordings to CD there's a clone PC with a card that takes the SPDIF audio from the recorder and lets me do the final stereo cut. I little final head/tail trimming is done on the PC, that's it.

The Serge is a great synth... very flexible and strange. Clean sounding at its base, it can also get raunchy.

That's it for now, enjoy the sounds.

Sorry mate dont get it...

Can someone explain to me what you listen for within each track to enjoy this. Only thing I can think of is that it might sound alright on class A's but there must be more too it...surely

Hey mate

Gotta say, I already bumped into your website and I'm feeling your tunes. They are of course bonkers. Reminds of some Aphex Twin style textures shit. Keep it up. The sounds you are making are madness itself!

Cheers

have I been rediscovered (???)

thanks for noticing, and the kind comments.... I have more/other projects going on, so I may have another release in future.

also please note my stuff is on iTunes, napster, sony connect, etc so you can sample it a track at a time for cheep. just look me up under m/n/m/l.

if you're in the US you can get a sony connect credit just by stopping at Mcdonald's and getting a hamburger. You can use this to download some Britney Spears (but sadly, not the chickeepoo herself) or summa my weird shit. I get paid, you get fed, and weirdo music to listen to. THE WORLD IS HAPPY!

A vision of Utopia that Plato, despite his genius, somehow overlooked.

Or whoever wrote it.
