Just a ping to the group at large. Any word on a release for the latest version of Nomad? I've got two Nord Modulars gathering dust! The early work looked so promising, but the functionality is not quite there yet. Can't wait to see a release. Any word would be appreciated.

Regards/Rob

Hello thehugger,

So Nomad progressed a lot in the meantime, you can checked the CVS mailling list to see there has been many commits:

So what is the status of Nomad ? Well the current version is pretty usable now. I will describe what is visible to the end user.
[list]
The sequencer modules have been completed.
All the curve displays have been added (except one I still have to do, but this is a boring task that I constantly postpone).[list]
You can assign a color to a module
You can randomize a patch
You can load and save patch to the synth.
The patch is synched with the synth when you edit it
You can delete module (was partially working before)
Morph section partially implemented. Work on knobs.
[\list]

Christian did a lot of work for the backend of Nomad, this is not directly visible, but it should open Nomad to further extensions in the future. In fact, the credit of most of the recent work must go to Christian.

About the release. Nomad is close to a release. We are trying to fix the biggest bugs. The main feature that should be finished before the new release is the morph parameters.

There are many possibilities for Nomad but we lack man power. We do our best, but time is limited. So, if you know Java and want to help please contact us !

This is a list of what could be added to Nomad with some help:

Storing variation of patched
A better patch randomizer
A patch mutator,
Adding support for other synths to nomad
Creation of custom interfaces for patches (à la Reaktor)
Integration of external midi controllers
Adding OSC support, for remote control
Adding support for easy skinning of the interface
And so on...

Some of this will come, sooner or later, but the more help we have the earlier

I am using nomad to make my patches. I only use clavia editor as reference for nomad development.

As a threat here is a screenshot showing some of the new features:
Posted Image, might have been reduced in size. Click Image to view fullscreen.
Click on it to get the unscaled version.

If you're a good observer you'll notice the Nomad also supports internationalization.

To conclude, the main message is the following:

The Nord modular is (almost) freed from his legacy editor. Nomad runs on Linux, Windows, Mac. So if you like your Modulars, don't sell them Smile

Cheers,

Julien

Looks very nice, good to read that the functionality not only nears completion but goes beyond the original as well.

Noodles. Pasta. What's the difference? Does the shape change really change the taste?

NM noodles are complex patches that trigger/play themselves (mostly), sometimes external gear too. Really cool soundscapes come from them.
Don't be persuaded into buying an NM by a screenshot of a simple patch, when a screenshot of a noodle would be much more persuasive. Wink

Oh- I see Jan already answered.
He usually beats me to the answers....

i know you guys were kiddin.. i dont get offended that easily.. Very Happy

i never knew that was called a noodle.. i call it.. or at least the output of it.. generative music..

as for my earlier comment.. i was exaggerating.. i wanted to buy the full scale modular for quite some time now.. and liked what i saw when using the MM.. so i got the big brother for 400EUR.. which in my opinion is a fair deal..

got a question though.. is it possible to send out individual notes to a midi output.. im used to max/msp and ive got a "Midibox" which lights leds when receiving midinotes ( i can always program it to react to something else though) and i want to use is to extend my MM (the MB_orb(the name of the thing) can send out CC aswell) so i can have some indicators showing whats happening inside the MM..

Hello all,

Thank you for the kind words.

I made a couple of screenshots of two noodles:

Posted Image, might have been reduced in size. Click Image to view fullscreen.

Make a right click, then show image, to get them unresized.

When you mean from a patch, the answer is no. What's played on the keyboard will be sent out and probably the micro will put received notes on it's thru output (does it have one ... don't remember). Oh I just see you get a rack version, that one will send through notes received on the thru output as well I guess.

You seem to be the first to mention noodlesoup in this thead Shocked

Anyway, a G2 has MIDI modules and can sequence external gear over MIDI, the NM Classic can't.

i didnt copypasta the noodlesoup from other threads Razz

2bad about the midisequencing.. but at least you can assign CC to knob values.. ill just put the sequencing stuff in the midibox itself or some LFOs or whatever.. its all good ..
