The forums on electro-music.com are generally open and self-moderating. The is no pre-approval process - any member can post to the forums. Still, we have moderators. What do they do?

A moderator here is more of an angel than a police person. Their goal is to nurture rather than to control. All moderators are volunteers, as are all people that participate here. Moderators commit a certain amount of time to the forum. They make sure that members questions and requests don't go unanswered. sometimes they go off-site and recruit people who might enjoy participating in a particular thread or discussion. They take on a personal commitment to make the forum more interesting and valuable.

Occasionally someone will post something to a forum that it inappropriate, or something that is more appropriate for another forum. The moderator might point that out. Sometimes there are simple typos or formatting errors that a moderator might correct. Even more rare, someone will post something that violates our conditions of use, and the moderators have the privileges to edit or delete posts if necessary.

Whenever we make even the smallest edit to someones post, moderators will indicate what the do with an editor's note, and indicate their username.

And it is a place new moderators can check out, and we can expand and refine these concepts.
