LiveWire AFG has 2 flat cables? Subject description: AFG question |
 |
|
Hello all,
Have only just registered on this beautiful forum and am just starting out with a modular system (soon to turn into a serious addiction I fear.)
A few months ago I had the opportunity to finally make my first step into modular land, and bought a, hardly used, Cwejman S1 MkII . Especially all the CV Gate stuff etc. is still new to me, so there's a lot to learn.
Now I recently bought a simple 19" case fitted with a Doepfer power distribution rail and a power supply. Now I'm thinking of buying a LiveWire AFG next. On a few pics I spotted on the web, I noticed there's 2 flatcables on the back of the AFG. I thought all modules had 1 flatcable to go onto the power distribution rail only.
Does the AFG need both cables to be connected to the powerrail? If so, why is this...? Does this module draw more power than can actually go through 1 powercable...? (Seems a bit odd to me, but hey, a newbie is a newbie!) Or do these two have different power demands?
Thanks in advance for your replies! |

Yes? Thanks, but not a very informative reply for a newcomer I'm afraid. |

There's no drama. Just connect the two ribbon connectors to the busboard as if you had two modules. Speaking of having two modules, I recommend the Cwejman VCO-6 combined with the Doepfer A-137 instead of the AFG.
Now you have more information than you asked for. |

Many thanks for this info dougcl. As I already have a Cwejman S1 Mk.II I decided to try modules by a few other manufacturers next. But thanks for your suggestion |

| The AFG is similar to the VCO-6. If you want something different, consider the Plan B Model 15. In either case, the A-137 is a great module to go with your new VCO. |

Yep, i just took delivery of mine and was flummoxed at first. Feel kinda stupid now. It sounds amazing, but i'm curious about the different jumper settings. _________________ Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so. Last edited by chaorta on Wed May 20, 2009 12:24 pm; edited 1 time in total |

i'm fairly certain the animated pulses are based on the output of the alien saws. the pulse position knob is like a symerty knob for the saws, sweeping from ramp to triangle to saw. this changes the position of the center of the pulse. the pulse width works like any other pulse width. what makes this really special is that the AFG gives you control of the pulse position for the positive and negitive halves of the wave seperately. if you have an oscilliscope it will all become clear rather quickly. _________________ You can check your anatomy all you want, and even though there may be normal variation, when it comes right down to it, this far inside the head it all looks the same. |
