Remember that GMT is a constant, and daylight savings times add 1 hour to it.
"GMT" is now one hour ahead masquerading as British Summer Time.
We keep GMT as the standard, but add one hour to it, and then calculate for your local time (in daylight or not).

This means that the United States, Eastern Time is five hours ahead of "GMT + 1", so if you want to listen, just add 5 hours. Central time, add 6 hours.

This means that 9pm in GMT is 10pm in British Summer Time (BST), and is 5pm in Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). Winter time is essentially the same 5 hour difference (+1 hour European difference).

Hope this helps.

Paul,

Good to know but probably would just add confusion. If Shane just keeps it all in standard GMT, the times will be correct as someone here in the states would just subtract the normal 4 hours. By the looks of things, you start at 5 PM and I will be listening !!!!

Look forward to it my friend .....

I just got hit with an upper respiratory infection BUT my show will go on next Tuesday !!! Laughing

As long as you keep in mind that GMT doesn't use daylight saving and so when they mess with your clocks again that interval would change Wink

Yes, good point. In the fall here on the US east coast, we set the clocks back one hour thus we would then need to add GMT + 5 hours.

Thanks Jan Wink

Maybe you have an example of a non working link for me? I tested most of the 66 links to music here and they all worked for me, the way the page is generated should ensure the rest is working as well then ... but I could have made a mistake of course in the programming logic.

Try CTRL+F5 on the page maybe, that link indeed exists no more as I rearranged things a bit but the page that I have here works ok on all those tracks.

There will be more changes soon though, I'm currently transferring all recordings to the main server ... the archives might not be too responsive for the next couple of hours ... my outgoing link is like FULL.

Now that it's Daylight Saving Time, the US east cost has changed from EST/UTC-5 to EDT/UTC-4. The schedule shows, for example:
Quote:
MONDAY:
22:00 - 00:00 GMT
Edison's Electronic Review with EdisonRex
Before the time change, 2200 GMT was 1700 EST or 5 pm EST. After the time change, that is now 1800 EST or 6 pm EST.

Is everyone OK with the schedule effectively springing forward by an hour? I'm wondering if the schedule should be moved back an hour so that the shows remain at the same local time as before the time change. Chez Mosc was 6 pm for me and is now 7 pm. That means midnight in the UK (are they on Summer time yet?) and 1 am in western Europe. This is later than what I'd like. I'm interested in moving the schedule back an hour while we're on Daylight Saving Time. What do all of you think?

Cheers,

I do but let's double check with Howard first before making any changes. After all, it is Chez Mosc. Wink

Bill makes a good point but it was opposite for me. I like the summer schedule because my show, in winter, starts at 6PM. I get home from work at 5:45 so that gives me 15 minutes till start. In summer, it starts at 7PM ... much nicer Very Happy

I think I will do my schedule move in winter next time.

BTW, end of this month is British Summer Time, GMT+1.

With regard to GMT times for shows, I'd much rather keep AIS at 11pm and not move it an hour later once we get in to DST, it's just too late and it gets confusing with show times changing

It doesnt matter to me one way or the other for my show. But since at least 1/2 or the majority of the listening audience is EU, I dont mind to play earlier either.
Ill adjust to whatever you and Rob decide on. Very Happy

Likewise, once we move to Summer Time, I'll keep my shows at clock time (ie they will move back an hour GMT) so as to keep the clock time constant (except for those places which don't move their clocks). So after next week, I'll change my times on the schedule.

At the risk of sounding ignorant, what's summer time? Is it "I love Cali in the summer time? Yeah, hey!"?

Oh, it's just DST by another name.

Changing clocks to "save daylight": stupidest idea ever.

It is controversial. The only benefit that I can see of DST is that AFTER you get home from work, you have an extra hour of daylight that was stolen from the morning... which is hogwash. All you have to do is start work an hour earlier to achieve the same thing... or just leave work an hour earlier. DST is a mechanism of society that is just more complicated than just changing your work hours. But then not everyone would do it which is fine as far as I'm concerned.
