This is a series of samples from several recordings I made during the January ice storm of 2009.

Recorded with Sony MD MZ-R30>Sony ECM-717 Mic>CD>MP3

I lost power for 13 days during below freezing temperatures. Aside from absence of electricity, the roads were decimated by ice and debris.

The ice accumulated quickly on the limbs of the trees. Within a 24 hour period, the weight of the ice on the limbs of the trees became much greater than the limbs could uphold. Trees, branches, and limbs began popping off regularly.

I maintained in my home the majority of the storm with propane heat and battery powered devices. One of the few things I did have at my disposal was my fully charged battery powered MD recorder and mini-condenser mic to make recordings to entertain myself during the day.

These are some samples of some of the recordings I made during that time. Trickling water, branches cracking, animals, wind, icicles falling onto the ice.
Enjoy!

This recording is the sound of water dripping on to a metal chair as someone walks by in the snow and ice.

Because EdisonRex had a remote interest in the sounds of the cattle near my home... I have included this recording. Ice storm and limbs breaking and cows vocalizing.

Recorded with Sony MD MZ-R30>Sony ECM-717 Mic>CD>MP3
