making faceplates |
 |
|
im quite new to the whole modular thing. came into some older modules from different manufacturers and just ordered some new ones from curetronic. while talking to matthias at curetronic he recommended the i choose one size of module (right now i have 3/5/6Us including the wacky elektor formant 3/6Us).
i like the idea of this - keeping things somewhat uniform, but am not sure i can fit all the platines behind a certain size plate (3U, for example). and am not sure what making these plates (or having them made) entails.. could get expensive?
does anyone have any experience with this? |

u first buy all the modules u need ,don't care the size/format of the module, then re-design all modules in a format that u have chosen, then u search for a manufacture where they cut, anodize brush engrave or slilkscreen all them self ,then u ask 1 price for all your designs in one batch.
and u let made more as u need for critical modules so u have spares, like a vco ,if u need 4,then u made 10 ,the price will be the same!!
concerning the graphics Lazer engraving is the cheapest method |

well in my country i found a guy he do everything except deep engraving (like shaeffer)
if u want to morph diy or finished modules all into one other format of ur choice using shaeffer services u better buy a brand new complete modular.
I recommend u go the lazer engraving way ,thats cheap with nice result.
Use google and search with keywords like aluminium anodizing/serigraph to start with but then in german , if u search (only) with keywords like frontpanel engraving etc, u only will find manufacture for expensive delux engraving for prototyping etc with specialities to do that in stainless steel brass etc and this all comes with pricetags a la 150e per frontplate. |

I also have a set of Curetronic modules on the way. I'm going to try to cut up pieces of aluminium myself and drill holes in them, one for each module. I won't bother with anodizing or other fancy stuff like engraving. I've heard people use Schaeffer for panels with good results - a bit pricey though. I'm not even sure it's cheaper than having Mathias make the panels for you... might be if you only do the one large panel maybe.
edit: I'm also a modular newbie, btw.
