New VG-99 YouTube Songs |
|
|
Hi everybody its me again!
I have posted three new songs on YouTube all done with the Roland VG-99.
I thought they would be of interest here.
The important thing is how all of the tracks below are done with out using a synthesizer or midi outs.
It is all just Hex processing of the guitar string.
Using the actual guitar string as the "oscillator", pitch to voltage conversions are not needed.
It is still just my guitar but with a gigantic tone pallet that allows for complex orchestration, effects and new voices.
This also allows for the nuances of an individual player to shine right through.
Every scrape, bump and noise ,
That also means the ability for you to sound like you and not the same sample playback sound everyone else in the world has.
Long live guitar re-modeling!

Stunning
Not only showing the power of the VG, but the music stands on its own, each piece being beautiful. It has a sound all of its own. Makes me want to sit down and play with VG.
I'd buy a record of these 'musical landscapes' of yours if I could!

Amazing stuff.
I have been getting more into programming the VG99 but mine doesn't sound like yours, do you think it may be broken?

Bill, do you use piezo pickups or GK? |

My thoughts exactly
I can get the VG to make some cool sounds, just not quite baranger1-class (yet ). To think that Roland chose not to have him doing an online VG-column...

Thank you all for listening!
Its very kind of you guys!!
I use the magnetic GK pick up.
I just never liked the piezoelectric sound from the ground up.
So I stayed with what the factory designed the unit around.
I would love to see third party magnetic pickups.
The VG-99 is a double edge sword.
Its EQ can take a regular sound and bring it to life.
It also can also make good things sound nasty and small.
If I had one secret to spill it would be its the EQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have so many EQ's on board that you can shape a sound into anything.
That goes for amp sounds and all the weird stuff to.
Spend a week and learn the EQ inside and out!
Then learn how to stack EQ's.
It will pay you back ten fold.
I play sound games by guessing what frequency a sound I hear peaks at and then I check and see how far off I am.
After time you learn right where to boost or cut a frequency.
Thanks again guys!

Thanks for the tip! You're right, they're everywhere, EQ away!
One thing I am learning about the VG is that you don't have to be afraid to twist a lot of knobs, and twist them far, as it were. I've not been EQ'ing a lot though...
Since you are into all sorts of guitar synthesis, are you aware of the Axcel2? It's a resynthesizer (and much more) which I hope will work well with guitar. We have a sub forum for it here.

What about Equipment and Arrangement |
|
|
Hello,
first of all: I was surprised of all your creativity while making music. Great tracks, really!
May I ask you something about the way you recorded this music (Software and Equipment) ?
Thanks,
Holger

WOW - the music is fantastic - and the images fit right in with it! Well done!
I'm going to have to revisit my earlier ideas on getting a VG-99 and possibly a VB-99 as well. I currently have a VG-88v2 which is 'ok' but not very synthy at all. My V-bass on the other hand is quite good at getting synth bass type sounds - and even string pads....much better then the VG is....

Holger
I use Pro Tools to record using a PC running XP.
I have a very old Focusrite Pro Tools interface I love and that is what I use and love.
The new Pro Tools software is very cool.
Is simple but works great!
Thanks for the post my friend.
