Hi Guys,

Is anyone else noticing that the site is crawling under safari 4.0.2, takes about 30 seconds to do anything!

Using other browsers everything is fine.

Hmm ... I had a couple of complaints like this in the chat yesterday, people were seeing a blank page. I couldn't reproduce it on my mac, but maybe it's a safari version issue ... I don't know what version I'm running, will need to check later.

Runs fine here. Very Happy

Jan?? Uh.. you have a mac? Which model?

Right, and I got myself one of those new double display card 15" MBPs. Seems like the double card thingie won´t actually give any more performance until I get Snow installed though.

Yep it is definitely a 0.2 problem, worked fine before the upgrade.

There are other reports on the internet of 0.2 being slow with certain sites.

Seems it may be to do with RSS feeds or DNS but why it would be DNS I have no idea!

Welcome back Stein Wink

By head ... macbook pro ... erm 2.66 GHz, anti-glare ... 17" ... what else you have ... it likes to drink beer, but it's a bit messy to clean it's keycaps afterwards. Also bought an iPhone, but have to make my first phone call with it still, it's too much fun to make noises with it Shocked

Anyway, I had planned to make software for the iphone ... but always something comes up that eats my time faster than it grows.

Come to think of, Howard made server timeouts smaller to improve general performance, maybe they should be set a bit higher still.

Well, for Safari it is just about turning on the developer/debugging mode and then look into what it really is that the app chokes on.

Turns out that I had font smoothing off for fonts smaller than 12 pt, set it to be off or fonts smaller than 8 pt now, that looks better ... so it had to be turned on and not off Wink

I found the link you posted Tom before with some googling, but then something came up ... ah yes .. the font smoothing issue Laughing

Ok, on we go, thanks for thinking with me!

I wonder if it was an intermittent case of the slows? I seem to get that every now and then, regardless of whether I'm using IE or Firefox.

For instance, last night I posted three pics to the "Thinking Out Loud" thread. Things were moving fine - I uploaded one pic, but on the second, things just stopped moving. I waited around fifteen minutes or so (went off and did something else) and came back - it was still in the same state - about half the upload bar showing. I tried just going back to the top of the forum, but only the electro-music masthead appeard. I thought perhaps it was my connection and put in Google's URL. Bam - IE went immediately to Google. Then I tried muffwiggler - it went straight there. Then I tried electro-music - the computer just sat there waiting to go to electro-music. I gave up for a bit - I'd say five minutes, then went back and entered the electro-music URL again, and it worked just fine. Got the three pics uploaded, wrote the post and went to bed.

That seems to happen to me from time to time with em. Sorry if this is so vague as to be un-usefull, but as my first line says - maybe coincidink with the Safari for the same condition - perhaps any other browser would have acted the same way at that particular time(?)

Could be Scott, and indeed the site is slow sometimes (although I never had to wait for like 15 minutes .. except on huge mp3 uploads), but yesterday when I got the complaints in the chat the site worked for me but not for two other people, very odd ... and then one of 'm changed to another browser and it would work thinking
