OK, this should be really easy.
I want to save and name my programs.
The AU version does not seem to be able to do this at all.
The VST version does allow you to save and you can name the saved file but I can't figure out how to name the program so it shows up with my chosen name in the program list.

THIS SHOULD BE EASY!

please let it be a brain fart as I like this program a lot.

I feel for you. Seems to depend on the host somewhat. Every host has its own ideas about patches, and then some plugins get around this with their own private ways and patch browsing, some sync with the hosts' methods, others don't, and each year another vendor decides to heck with program changes, what people want to do is find sounds by selecting meta tags for database access and then wait for 6 seconds while the database results are sorted. The programmer did it that way on his last job implementing banking software, so why shouldn't musicians want the same thing, in fact it's so good, let's toss out banks and program changes all together, and multitimbrality as well, and to heck with control changes while we are at it.

And that is why I am switching back to hardware.

As to the PPG plugin in particular, I'd be able to answer that easily by launching it since I do own a copy which I purchased with money, but gosh, the copy protection claims I am no longer licensed.

Never had that problem with hardware.

I think the basic problem is that hardware people are awesome guys who surf and do rock climbing and software only people are very lame people who went into software because it was a less expensive degree than an MBA.

I think I remember it working if I used Fxpansions VST wrapper in Logic. But the AU version doesn't seem to let me save or rename programs in Live. I can save but not name the programs using the VST in Live.

I agree, my hardware doesn't do this.

Ok, for Ableton live specifically, if you press the little "Save Preset" disk icon on the x/y controller display thing for the instrument, a patch document appears over in your AU sub folder for the plugin. You can click on that and do cmd-R to rename it in that list. That's just the generic preset save in Live though and I'm pretty sure you already know about that, so there must be something else to this.

yep, that one won't allow you to load it into an existing bank and name it within the bank. Think I'll just play with my Blofeld and MicrowaveXt instead.

I just got the Waldorf PPG Wave 2.V and I'm wrapping it in the fxspansion VST>RTAS adapter for Pro Tools use. It works fine other than the seeming inability to open another patch bank(of which I have a whole bunch) and saving a patch with a new name in the current bank(or other bank as an .fxp file. I can save using the Pro Tools format and that works but there's no way to open up someone elses' bank. The folder where all those banks are stored arent even recognised by The PPG if I'm in a Pro Tools session. It's like it's not even there.
