I'm thinking that whilst I'm in the US for EM 2009 it might be worth trying to get some extra gigs.

It has already been suggested that I should contact some radio shows to see if I could do a set, so I'm going to do that

I just wondered if anyone knew any places I might play around the area, or could help me hook up with promoters.

Thanks
Jez Smile

I don't know what's in NY and north Jersey, but for NE Pennsylvania you might try contacting Godfrey Daniels in Bethlehem, PA at artisticcommittee@godfreydaniels.org . It's a non-profit, BYOB place that usually hosts artists in folk-derived and electric-folk veins, but the people who run it are pretty open minded, and Lehigh University is just up the street (and one of PA's new casinos is now a few blocks away; I haven't been there since that happened). They just might be open to an electro-music artist. Some new musical blood for the old place.

I've played some processed banjo and guitar at open mic nights there in the past to good reception.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give this some consideration, not quite sure whether ambient/drone/space music fits their definition of folk, as wide as it is

You definitely need to get in touch with Scott Raymond at WVKR-FM. He welcomes people to perform live on his show. He is only a few hours away from the EM09 venue. I'm sure he will be at EM09 this year. His show is on Sunday mornings.

Mark -

Thanks for the recommendation. The check's in the mail. :;

Barring catastrophe, I will indeed be at EM09. The location is slightly over an hour from my home and maybe 2 hours (maybe less) from the radio station. Given the location and timing, I've certainly thought of using my show the day after EM09 for live interviews/performances from EM09 performers. I was going to wait until I saw a performance schedule to firm up plans, but you're certainly welcome to come up and talk/perform, Jez. Contact me for further info. Thanks!

So I'm staying in the US until the 8th November so I can play at City Skies in Atlanta on 7th November Cool

I'm flying from Newark down to Atlanta on 4th November so need somewhere to stay for 1st-3rd November, preferably within commuting distance of New York so I can do a bit of sight seeing Smile

Anyone in the area have any ideas for inexpensive hotels/motels/B&Bs or alternative accomodation, preferably somewhere I can leave my stuff safely whilst I'm out?

I haven't forgotten about having you come up to the show, but things are in a state of flux right now and I'm not sure if I'll be at EM 09 this year. I'll keep you posted as things resolve themselves.

Scott, OK, I'd still like to do something, but I'm not really sure what to do about transport, at the moment I'm doing em-09 then staying at a hotel in Newark for 3 nights before flying down to Atlanta

Which instruments are you taking with you on stage?

I know you have been programming sounds on the NM1

and now I'm back, but I had fun Smile

after em09 went down to Atlanta and stayed with Kevin Haller, who is a star Smile

jammed with him for about 4 hours on Thursday, then did a stillstream show with him and Jim Combs on the Friday

photos from the jam on stillstream with Jim and Kevin are here

http://www.flickr.com/photos/jimcombs/sets/72157622626258585/

we played 2 hour plus long sets, with long ambient sections and sequencey interludes, which we hope to post up somewhere at some point

then on Saturday it was City Skies, where my equipment was augmented with a PolyEvolver and Fizmo (courtesy of Richard A Mechling and Garry Looney respectively)

Jim has posted the recordings of the sets at the City Skies website:

http://cityskies.com/Nov2009/november2009reco.html

and there are photos here:

http://cityskies.com/Nov2009/photosnovember20.html

Jim was also a great guy, he cracked me up Smile

I was sad to leave, but am glad to be home

It was really great meeting Jez. He dropped a pretty heavy space track on the audience. Very trippy and wonderful.

Last Saturday was a great night indeed. Jez, your set was fabulous and quite cerebral. Everything I had hoped for and more! It was also nice to see other members (Mark, Richard, Spudz and Klimchak- I know I've spelled that wrong) of this board/community out to support the music. Great sets from everyone in my opinion. Jim seemed to really serve up a diverse dish of EM that night.

Thanks Mark, was great to meet you Smile

I'm not entirely sure where the set came from. I was quite nervous before I started, but I think the whole trip had been a kind of rehearsal for the set as I'd really got to know the limited gear I had and the addition of the extra instruments just added extra inspiration. I felt more in control at a gig than I remeber for quite some time.

That and I was in a really cool mood generally after having such a good time on my trip, especially the previous evening with Jim and Kevin.
