Subject description: using a sort of commuted waveguide algo

Hello,

this is my first post ever here.

I used to own a micro modular 8 years ago,
since that time, I did not bought a G2... because it was far too buggy.

So I waited... and I think I bought the last G2 engine available in France (they are very rare as second hand).

So, here is my first patch, it is inspired by the "commuted waveguide" synthesis : impulses responses of the instrument's body are injected into a waveguide figuring the strings. The structure is "commuted" but as filtering is a linear process, it does not mater.

We do not have samples in the G2 (it is a shame !!!!), so I kinda generate impulse responses with synched PM synth. To avoid "graininess", two impulses overlap (and they are windowed).

I think the result is promising and I am looking for ideas to improve it.

Regards

If the patch is silent, just send some "expression", it will open the filters and amps.

Shocked HA! I totally overlooked this one. How interresting. Cool

The only bowed string modelling approach I've dabbled with sofar was with the Keller-Friedlander nonlinearity in the feedback loop. (Thanks, Chet! Smile )

This sounds much better to my taste. In the mid-lower ranges it sounds especially convincing. And the WG is far simpler, just a StringOsc, which means zero tuning issues. Cool

I have no idea how it works. I briefly skimmed over this topic (commuted WG synthesis) long time ago somewhere (it was probably a J.O.Smith paper), but didn't get it.

...I still don't. Embarassed Laughing Gotta take a good look what that excitation source exactly does when I have time.

Thanks for the inspiration. And yes, it sounds promising and please do develop it further.

cheers,
tim
