Tonight is one song, the exploration of small things, lingering on the spot, and possibly moving a little here and there too.

Thank you all for tuning in. Smile

The set yesterday was in many ways influenced by other shows here on the electro-music radio, even if it may not be immediately apparent. At the end I played a track made previously, called "the snowflake effect", featuring a pitched down blackbird from Norway.

This is an edited version because I had one or two unintended silent moments during the show. Embarassed

Just listened through it (unfortunately Jez And Rob's adventures is a little too much past bedtime for me to listen live) - marvellous! That blackbird was pretty eerie. alien

Thank you Antimon. Smile

After Jez' show next week, Sweden will turn the clocks back one hour for daylight saving hours (25th of October), so the show will be one hour earlier. Maybe that will help?

Yes, Rob, I listened to it. I really enjoyed the show. I wonder where you get your inspirations? Cool

Big influence from you! Smile I tried to do some solos, but I desperately need to work on my timing and keyboard work. I had some inspiration in the structure of how the shows are set up as well, and the pad sounds you use. Smile

Les' vocoder gave me some ideas, as did Jez' tweakings, Jan's noodles and Shane's Space Port. The radio is so full of talent (not to mention knowledge and skills!) that that it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside being part of it. Very Happy

Yeah, it's that time of year again. I think I'll try to do a couple of late night wednesdays...

Edit: removed imposing picture to keep the thread focus

Tonight's show will feature some improvised kaossillations and some microkorg and will be a sort of companion piece to my last show as it features the other half of the equipment I will be taking to EM-2009

Episode 5 came together at the very last minute, using my new Kaossillator and mini-KP with my microKorg and Boardweevil and DD-20 for live looping. I enjoyed it Smile

Tonight is a little bit of a stunt, using only images to create sound. Attached is a long image that does not only represent the audio you are hearing in tonight's show, it is the composition itself, which has been used directly to create what you hear.

To read it, start from left and work your way through to the end. Horizontal lines convert into tones, while big bright areas convert into noise. Top is high frequencies and bottom is low frequencies. Brightness indicates loudness, and colour has no effect, apart from making it a little bit more interesting to look at.

It may be difficult to follow exactly what is happening, because the image is linear (in terms of frequency) while the sound itself is logarithmic. Therefore, a lot of frequency information lies in the bottom tenth of the image... If you have problems following the score, log into the chat and I'll give you a pointer as to where we are. Smile

The image below was converted to sound using Adobe Audition 3, and edited in Gimp. There is a lot of scope for more experimentation, as you can also export audio from AA3, but I have restricted myself to only going one way this time.

All the effects that you hear in the track are from the image editing. I did some subtle tweaking after converting the image to sound, notably making it stereo and adjusting levels a bit.

I hope you enjoy it. Smile

Oh, and the image may take some time to load, even though I have tried everything in my power to make it as light as possible. (The original image is similar in size to the audio file...)

Edit: I have updated the image with time cues every 2.5 minutes so it is easier to follow where you are. They are not exact to the second but they are close enough for the purpose they hold. Know that the blue vertical lines and the time indicators are not part of the sound (everything else in the image is). The sound file has also been attached to this post.

Also note that the show starts one hour earlier tonight, in countries which changed from summer to winter time this weekend.

I've spent a lot of today putting my episode together

It's a sonic travelogue made up of field recordings with added stuff

Oh yes, there certainly is, many thanks for telling me about him, as well as the cricket there's some other stuff from Star Lake, including the infamous door slam and some rain and even a couple of guest speakers, but they got a bit buried in the mix.

Episode 7 of Adventures In Sound was produced in my hotel room in Newark on the 3rd November using field recordings from Star Lake Camp, improvised sample based pieces recorded during electro-music 09, field recordings from a trip into New York, drones produced on the morning before I left for electro-music and an improvised piece recorded in my hotel room using a Yamahe VSS30, Mini KP and DD-20 looper.

Thanks to Rob for streaming it for me on Wednesday 4th November

The field recordings used in this set are now available here
