I think they mentioned them in the first post: nLog and Wivi Band.
There are really a huge number of good noisemaking apps for the iPhone, though. I remember playing with one that was developed by Brian Eno, I think it's called Bloom. _________________ solo: http://www.myspace.com/skippyvodka

Thanks, Shane.
As Beth mentioned, Wivi Band and nLog.
I really think the iPhone/iPod Touch platform is becoming a viable musical instrument in its own right, and there are more new and interesting musical apps appearing every day. And I think we can see where the rumored Apple touchscreen tablet will go as its own music platform, once it's released - in fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see many current iPhone music apps ported more or less intact to the Tablet, but with even greater functionality and modes of expression. It's really an interesting time for these kinds of instruments....
If you get the Touch, take a look at Bebot, nLog, Wivi Band, JR Hexatone Pro, Bloom, Air, SynthPond, Curtis, Junglinge, DopplerPad, TouchDJ, and Trope, among many others.

For those who came to hit on my Lemur during the weekend, I summed it up as a giant iPhone screen that sends MIDI. I don't know what the iPhone tablet will do, or cost, but I heartily recommend the Lemur to anyone who wants a multitouch controller for sending MIDI or OSC to a computer. _________________ solo: http://www.myspace.com/skippyvodka

This track could make me go get one of those devices. In fact I got an iPod touch mini for free when I bought my daughter a Macbook this summer, but my son has that now
Of course, I was the last in our house to get a cell phone, about 5 years after having written software tools for developers putting apps on cell phones for about 10 years.

I had a question about that Lemur back when it first came out, and never got round to asking it: Is the "GUI" that is displayed on the Lemur fully customizable, partly customizable, or not at all? I have a grant proposal in for some equipment, and was considering a pen tablet, but based on your enthusiasm I should check out the Lemur before I buy. _________________ When the stream is deep

I have TouchOSC for my iPhone, had I been thinking more clearly I would have shown it to some people. It even has an editor so you can make your own pad combinations. I send it to OSCulator on my mac to translate to MIDI events since I don't have much else that speaks OSC right now.
It's a great time for Apple, with the iPhone/iPod Touch apps, and the fantastic applications available on the rest of the Apple platform. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Since nobody more knowledgeable than I has chimed in:
Yes,according to the web site, they are fully customizable.

Thanks. I had looked at the specs when Lemur first came out, but didn't know enough about controlling musical devices to comprehend it all. That has changed.
The next question would be whether it makes sense to consider getting a Lemur, or wait for larger device technology from Apple. It seems that other than size, everything that you can do with a Lemur you might possibly do with an iPhone or iPod Touch. Is that true??? _________________ When the stream is deep

i don't know what a potential future apple tablet may or may not be able to do, but one of the things that makes the lemur really worth it to me is the software that comes with it. i've said it before and i'll say it again: the software is great for just jumping in and getting started, easy to learn about, and has a scripting language that allows for a lot of detail and control, if you want it. _________________ solo: http://www.myspace.com/skippyvodka

Thanks! I am looking to design a game to replace Scrabble-to-MIDI, partly for Scrabble trademark reasons, and partly to design a game intended for music improvisation and performance. On one hand I'd like a game composed entirely of free software components that can be played on stock hardware (Scrabble-to-MIDI is entirely in Java and thus qualifies), but I'd like the option of having alternative, touch screen game boards. It seems like Lemur may be a way to go with this.
It would in fact be possible to create alternative, pluggable game GUIs on 1) Lemur, or on 2) iPhone, or 3) conventional display+mouse GUIs. I like that idea. That way no player would have to buy special hardware, but one could take advantage of it if available.
I am still waiting for a grant proposal that is due back for acceptance or rejection by November 30. If that comes through, Lemur is pretty high on the list at this point.
Take care. _________________ When the stream is deep
