... And the my computer died, and with it my recording capabilities. Give it a couple weeks and the thing will be back from the shop.

Now, the silly question. Does the SN Voice make noise by itself or does it need control circuitry? I know a keyboard or sequencer that generates gates and CVs and triggers is recomended, but for the bare bones I-don't-quite-have-a-modular-yet people...

A couple of years ago somebody asked this very question and forum member Tim Servo posted this:

Tim Servo wrote:
To get your SN-Voice singing without a keyboard or gate input, set the frequency pots to mid position, and make sure the Envelope Lock switch (S3) is in the "fixed" position (try it both ways if you're not sure). You should hear something with the wave select switch (S2) in either the pulse or noise position

You can definitely have some fun with it that way.

Thanks Tim via Mark!

That'll satisfy my must-hear-it-now desires and give me incentive to finish the keyboard in the next couple weeks.

Has anyone bought the ability to switch between a PWM vco or an extended frequency range oscillator option out onto their front panel?

I've finally got around to populating my board, and it's that option I've now come up against. Confused

2 resistors that need changing and a trimmer that needs to switch between a value and ground- right? Rotary switch??

Bill, have you pondered this one at all?

Tom

Hi all,
Got my SNvoice pcb a while back,
set about doing the front plate for it last nihgt, i was working off one of the ones that was in the documentation that was posted at the start of this thread.

Started making a rough version on cardboard to see if i had all the bits etc, when i got most of the pots on it seemed really cramped, esp at the back for wiring etc

has anyone used this front for their sn-voice? did it work out ok
or does anyone have a different front panel design i could use?

thanks

Is it cramped in terms of just the wiring being tight or is it too cramped fro your fingers to? If it's just wiring that's tight, maybe you could use 16 mm panel potentiometers and 1/8" jacks? Unless you are already Wink

Are you referring to the Bridechaamber panel on the first post?

I have a 1U panel design I can share with you. Do you have the program "Front Designer"? That's the file format my design is in.

Sure

I have attached the file for you. You just have to rename the extension to .FPL. Attachments with this extension will not get through.

It is for a 19" rack like you asked. I believe it is 2U high. Myself, I printed it up on clear transparency using my inkjet printer, then cut it out and used double back clear film. It worked out very nice. Hope it works out for you. Very Happy

Bill

Just to butt in: now that my SN-Voice is about a year old I have to say that I am really glad I decided to bring out the 20% along with the 50% LFO and EG options for the pwm. I'm saying this not to be critical of people who have decided to leave the 20% off, but only for the benefit of those who have yet to commit to a final panel design.

Ahh, yes, good point you make. Not critical at all, just good advice. Wink Luckily the panel I posted is the raw design file and can be modified any way one wishes. Cool

Thanks Mark

Hello all,

My friend and I are working on two of your SN voice kits. I may be mistaken but it seems that the capacitors contained in the kits have been changed from the Bill of Materials. I compared the schematics and the BOM and it looks like they are consistent. The two kits we're in the middle of came with the same parts as each other, so I don't think it's an error in kit assembly.

Is there an issue I need to be aware of here? Where are the corrections published if so? Or am I completely mistaken and every kits has been sent with precisely the parts as the BOM lists them and I need to look a lot more closely?

Thanks for your advice. If there's already a thread on this please direct me to it.

Jeannine

Is the difference well within the tolerance of the original part? If so, they probably just substituted parts.

Hmmm! We never thought of that. Good idea. I'll check next time we're sitting down at the bench. Thanks.

Hi Scott,

looks great. One problem, the switch-of-the-gods image is too small to read.

No, the illustration is correct. The label is just too vague - it's actually the "Switch of the Opthamologists Gods". I just thought that would be obvious....

Laughing

Thanks for pointing that out. Fixing.......fixing........fixed!

Cheers,
Scott
