We had some database problems earlier today, Dec 31. This showed up as a general error when one was performing searches. I had to stop the forum and manually go in and remove thousands of records from the database. There obviously is some problem which needs a more permanent fix. It may be related to the upgrade we did a few weeks ago. I will look into this more deeply. Sorry for the inconvenience.

You're welcome...

The fix involved doing something interesting. I changed the sessions table in the database to be stored in memory only, not on disk like all of the other tables. The disadvantage is that all of the data in that table will be lost when the database is restarted or the computer reboots. It turns out that this particular data is temporary. The good news is that it's the most heavily used table and putting it in memory makes the forum respond faster.

I think the worst effect will be that people will have to re-logon after a crash or restart whereas before they wouldn't.

it doesn't seem a big deal and if the tradeoff is having a faster responding forum.... well....it's a bargain Very Happy
