Oops, the length of this thread should have alerted me earlier ...
This was well worth the long download Howard, it's beatifull !!
And I think it really gives me a clue as to what Krellian music might be.

between this piece and jan's noodles, it seems the G2 is extremely well suited to emulating the analog tones of the 1950's _________________ Spiral Recordings |

Love Golden Squares, Howard!
Do some people call this "space music"?
If so, I love space music! _________________ Patrick Stacey

Thanks very much. Glad you like it.
Well, I wouldn't consider this space music by itself because it is composed with a different attitude and it lacks some of the typical space music stylistic characteristics. Still, it's not far off.
I'm writing this from the tradition of western classical chamber music. The intent is for serious listening. I would hope someone would approach this with the same attitude they would for string quartet.
Space music can certainly be listened to seriously, but it is intended to zone out and relax the listener. It seems this music has the effect of disconnecting the intellect and enables the audience to "space out". It's not considered low form to fall asleep during a space music concert, for example.
Stylistically, space music often consists of alternating ambient and rhythmic passages based on step sequencers. Compositions are often much longer than this one, usually are in only one minor key, and almost always in 4:4 time.
There is no offical space music definition, but this is what I have observed going to many space music concerts over the past few years. This is strictly my opinion.
That said, this particular piece could be performed at a concert devoted to space music and it would fit right in. So, if you like this, I would encourage to go for all the space music you can find. There is a lot of variety there, and some of it won't conform to my discription. _________________ --Howard

I'm "genre challenged" to be sure! Your piece definitely put my mind in a nice relaxed place...where is more of your stuff? _________________ Patrick Stacey

I hadn't replied here yet? Well, I love this piece! I love the movie, and I love its soundtrack!
I think using familiar classical forms with weird, 'new' and unfamiliar electronic sounds makes it all a bit easier to comprehend and digest, and thus appreciate.
Especially for listeners that are less 'specialized' in listening to and appreciating (this type of) electronic music. |

Thanks to some suggestions by Robin, rmiller, I've done a remastering of this piece to remove a little distortion and to improve the spacialization. I left the old version for comparison. The new version can be found attached to the first post of this topic.
