Hopefully, this post isn't too much of a duplicate of something I posted a while back.

Is there a sequencer that can perform these functions via step-recording easily (without doing a ridiculous amount of MIDI assigning for each song):

chords from a Roland SH-201
trigger individual patterns on a Korg ER-1 and EA-1
set a tempo to a delay effect unit that accepts one (I think this exists)

I've been using a PC with Fruity Loops in the past, but due to space and budget constraints, I may not be able (or want to) use a computer. I do have a Mac, but in order to run Fruity Loops (can't afford Ableton Live right now), I'd have to install it on a virtual machine I'm using for PC programs along with a USB-MIDI interface (those are cheap, though). Hmm... perhaps I could do that....

In any case, is there anything out there that has a really easy step-recording design that can handle this mess of MIDI?

Thanks!

What about an old MMT8? Or perhaps an MPC2000? Or a Yammie RM1x?

Well, I did get an MMT8 a few months ago, but I need to clean all of the contacts inside - but that's just laziness Wink

I'm sure the MPC is a bit too expensive for me, but the RM1x: that accepts polyphony from an external MIDI controller keyboard? If that's the case, I could replace one or both of the Electribes (but they are soooo easy to use).

the MMT8 doesn't do step recording, it's all real time

One of the old Roland hardware sequencers, like the mc-50, would probably do the job

If the buttons are not responding properly, what you need is probably a conductive material. The MMT-8 buttons tend to show this fault after wear because the coating under the buttons gets worn off - so if you clean them, is't only going to get worse over time.

Take a look at the following page for fixes: http://www.mmt8.com/misc.php
