This was a project I did for artschool last year. The objective was to make an interactive sculpture to produce sound, light or movement.
Video with 2 people "playing" it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW4Z78tZlA4
And a little montage of the previous clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzDmXlZEJ2k&feature=related

The pins in the bowl feed directly into the arduino wich calculates the resistence of the vegetable/fruit and sends a message to max/msp. Max/msp converts the message in a frequency for the 6 sine wave oscilators and plays the output through a pretty heavy subwoofer.... Twisted Evil

That vid. (with it's editing) was VERY cool! Very Happy

Great project as well! What had the participants thought of it? Stumped? Not knowing what to do? Fascinated? I doubt many of them (who were actually THERE, in the first place) were bored with it. Smile

Actually I met the guy who first did this (with vegetables) about 10 years back (although the actual concept is far far older than that of course). Here's a rather funny pic I took of him while he was wiring it all up!;

The papier-mâché model, was a self portrait of the sculptor (can't remember his name Confused ), with a cauliflower as a brain! As his 'brain' decayed (and the fruit too), the electrical impulses created were amplified with the help of galvanometers, and the sound created by the movement was translated into audio feedback (no MAX/MSP anywhere in sight!). Brilliant! Cool

Thanks! It's cool that people here appreciate stuff like this. In artschool most people know nothing of electronics and it can get a little demotivating.

I presented it at a open school day where new people mostly come with their parents to see if this school is right for them. Most people were scared at first but when they started they couldn't stop Very Happy . 2 young kids were really fascinated Shocked wich was cool to see.

Laughing didn't even see the guy in the bushes at first, that is a surreal picture!
