Here are a few songs, most of which I played at the 2010 Kansas City Electronic Music Festival. Thanks for listening in to the live stream. All of us performers appreciated your online presence. We were always aware that you were there.

The whole set uses a Nord Modular (first generation) keyboard, Future Retro 777 analog synthesizer, Jomox X-Base09 analog drum machine, and Korg ES-1 sampler to generate sounds, plus a Boss delay pedal for effects. A Roland MC50mkII sequences everything.

The song Hope utilizes a spliced sample of Hindu devotional music from a Lonely Planet CD. This beautiful song had a strange time signature with seven beats per measure and alternated from a downbeat to an upbeat on every other measure, making it difficult to loop! (I ended up cheating and inserting a beat of silence to make it 8 beats per measure.) I do not know what the words of the song mean, but I added a vocoded part of my own toward the conclusion of the song. To me, the message is that all religions seek the truth, and we will not know why anything is as it is until the end of our lives.

The song Monster is a humorous commentary about the effect of technology and automation on our lives. We no longer deal with people directly. Where is the humanity in our daily interactions? Yet, we enjoy the speed and anonymity of this new style. In other words, we are responsible for what we have wrought, good or bad.

The song KC keeps with the mood of that great Midwestern metropolitan area, Kansas City, which is in both the states of Missouri and Kansas. This lively city has a tradition of blues and soul music. This song uses Hip Hop Acid Loops from their old DJ series. It was a lot of fun to make.

The song Vegetarian was written for a performance of a 2007 festival in Lincoln, Nebraska that celebrated both electronic music and vegetarian food. It was named V.E.A.L. (Vegetarian Electronic Arts Lifestyle) by its promoter, who played a big Moog modular synthesizer and a Theremin at the event. A Japanese artist conducted a symphonic group, and a modern dance group performed, too.

I'm so glad you like them. I wondered how my music would fit in at a primarily ambient and experimental music festival. I qualified as the "variety act!" No matter what I do, every time I sit down to compose, when the Muses come to call, they are wearing dancing shoes. That was the fun thing about the festival, everyone had something unique to offer.
