If you were limited to only being able to buy 2 or 3 John Cage CD's, Which would they be, and why. I have to admit to having never gotten one and want to know what would represent his best.

Thanks,

Dan

Sonatas and Interludes, because it's beautifully composed for prepared piano (not just using prepared piano as a novelty).

James

Thanks for the recommendation, James! I am due for some new audio cortex stimulation, and I like prepared piano.

I like the aria for voice.

Every performance sounds very different. I like this one a lot:

It's a great piece in the sense that it has a series of innovations. The notation of the piece, the text of the piece (which is a mix of French, English, Italian, Spanish and other languages), this is an important contemporary vocal piece an something makes me think it had an influence on Berio's Sequenza for voice. But the real reason I love it is because my (now) silent muse sang some fragments to me like a year ago <3_<3 (the text is very romantic). My silent muse is now singing to me the eternal extended version of 4'33 </3_</3.
