CapyTalk on Pacarana Subject description: My Pacarana arrived |

My Pacarana arrived last weekend, got through the sanity check after cleaning up my study for a while (which is now jammed with banjos, guitars and amplifiers because we have guests staying in the spare room where many instruments often live). Its sure says, "Kyma."
Have they put CapyTalk on the Pacarana yet?
Afraid I may not get a lot of time to learn this thing until semester's end in May, but I do have some plans for the little bugger _________________ When the stream is deep

Congratulations Dale!!
Yes you can use CapyTalk expressions and scripts with the Pacarana. Is there anything specific you have in mind? Kyma runs on this just as well as it does on the older Capybara. The only thing to my knowledge that does not run on the Pacarana is third party microsounds, as these have to be rewritten for the new processors in the Paca/rana.

Nothing in mind yet, I just like to get under the hood. Actually, I was writing some Java code to do "lull detection" in real-time audio streams for some grammar-based restructuring of spoken word performances, that I might port as a tutorial to CapyTalk at some point. There has to be some communication between a parser and the audio streamer. Right now they run in Java and ChucK respectively, and communicate using OSC. I reckon I can use Kyma/CapyTalk instead of ChucK for this. There is probably a Kyma component that'll do the lull detection, not sure about the audio subsequence shuffling, though.
Some day I'll have something ready to play, to make sense of that last paragraph!

OK, I think I understand what you have in mind. The grammar based shuffling is out of my league for the moment, but you can write audio live to a sample sound (or module if you will) and use amp and/or brightness follower to rearrange words. I have not experimented with this yet but I'm wondering whether a good place to start would be a drum loop remixer sound of some kind.
CapyTalk is not quite as flexible as programing in Java as you can't declare new objects, only use or multiply existing ones as a short cut to programming them graphically. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. _________________ Muied Lumens Sub Forum
