Sure, as said this is just for fun to see if the G2 is more broaden than the G1 within this forum member.

No statistical truth intended

if the nord modulars didn't sell, that's nobodies fault but Clavias.

look at ebay: the G2s are going for astronomical prices these days. the demand is intense.

with the increased interest in modular synthesis, plus more widespread familiarity with software-based patching environments such as reaktor & max for live, the market is extremely ripe for a G3. the combination of an easy to use software patching environment with a hardware unit that can be disconnected from the computer and taken out and used as standalone hardware... that is exactly what a lot of musicians are looking for right now.

i talk to electronic musicians, even sound designers... a lot of them haven't even heard of the nord modular. or sometimes they have a vague recollection of hearing about it somewhere a while back but have no idea what it can do. this is all down to a lack of promotion by Clavia back when it was released.

it's a different world on the internet today compared to back then. if Clavia released a powerful G3, priced it reasonably, had some really good & diverse video demos made to explain the system & what can be done with it, had a great website for it that explained the whole concept from top to bottom... i have no doubt it would be an incredibly successful product. all the blogs would pick up on it and spread the word.

the key would be to have a lower priced option available (such as a micromodular or the engine) for the bedroom musicians, or the small project studios who are on a budget. money is tight for a lot of people these days but the power & versatility of the modular makes it a great value and should be an important selling point (it's a synth! it's an fx processor! it's a sequencer! etc...).

This! I make Eurorack modules and the interest in modulars is indeed growing. If Clavia came out with the G2 and just updated the hard to get parts and just made more videos and splashed the demo around the net they would sell more than they did before. The market is better than it was for sure.

It they provided CV ins and outs then it would be absolutely amazing; the "must own" companion for every modular fan out there.

That would make it a true seller to many modular users. I have used the Demo to send CV to my modular and the only problem was the low level and only 2 channels on the demo. There were people who have modded the G2 and G1 to have DC coupled outputs but if the hardware had that ad an option it would be perfect. The G1's pots on its front panel passed DC to be read by the CPU and it was easily modified to be run by external CV (the classic joystick mod for instance) but outputting CV would be huge. Think of all those sequencers and exotic CVs running your analog filters etc. - very sweet. An easier than Volta and Expert Sleepers cause you wouldn't need the computer at the gig.

And they say americans aren't good at sarcasm. Wink

This is why I refuse to work up any kind of anticipation just to get my heart crushed by what seems to be a company specialising in hotel lobby furniture these days. Sad

There is no way Clavia is going to make another modular.

I just wish there was at least one internet billionaire that enjoyed Electronic music as much as they seem to enjoy fast cars, airplanes and sports franchises. Someone who would swoop in and throw some cash at Clavia (or a bunch of talented designers) and make a G3 or equivalent. If I won the Lotto I would do it....

That's only because the demand is way bigger than the supply. Most owners won't part with theirs. I wonder why. Laughing Wink

I agree with this. I've explained quite a few times in other threads what I consider to be a feasible way to market such a modular synth: By NOT marketing it as a modular synth! Laughing Rather than that, equip it with a huge, comprehensive, well laid-out and meticulously documented (with a separate manual!) library of GREAT patches that turn it into a great-sounding VA, a granular synth, physical modeller, multi-FX-processor, drum machine, multi-channel MIDI step sequencer etc.. And sell it as "the box that does it all". The modularity and editor should only be mentioned in the small print. Just like Eventide does with the H8000.

Not sure if they really sell for this much do they? I'm watching this one just out of curiosity.

If it really sells for close to that, I might even consider dumping my G2X. I love it though, and feel like I've only scratched the surface with it. Still, for the right price...

I improved my skills by traveling several times to the Netherlands. Wink

I would have been really shocked if the new Nord was anything other than an Electro, Stage, or church organ.

Switzerland is an ace country. I've played live in Zurich and Fribourg. I've also stayed in Lausanne. My neighbours mother is from Lausanne too, but she now lives in England.

Great skiing too!! Cool

You guys seen this:

http://www.sonigen.com/

It is not hardware but has a workflow comparable to the Nord Modular.

Nice! I gave it a try - very promising. It's the initiative I've been wishing for. At the moment it isn't something I'd make a lot of use of for one reason: the envelopes and oscillators seem hardwired to be controlled by a MIDI keyboard, and there are no sequencer modules or other ways to make sound happen without playing manually. I want keyboard-free automation!

Still, pretty brilliant actually. thumleft

/Stefan
