Taking the classic on the road. |

Often I´ve gotten the question; "can you use the N.M. without a computer?" and I always answered; "Sure, just unplug it, throw it in a backpack and take it to the club". Sadly that´s a lie, if you do the fragile jogdial will break. It might take a while but it will, particularly if you fly a lot.
My sollution was to get a big, tough, Samsonite suitcase but the problem with those is that you have to haul allong a big, tough, Samsonite suitcase which is not so much fun on tour.
With these concerns in mind I present you my latest piece of work; the N.M. protector. It´s a simple wooden construction that attaches to the rack ears with four bolts, nut to keep the bolts in the rack ears and wingnuts to easily attach and detach the cover.
The plate itself is two layers as you can see; one layer of mdf with a rectangle sawed out that´s exactly the area of the interface and a second plate of wood to cover that. So; goodbye big suitcase, hello big bagpack!

Hey, that's a good idea, Kassen.
If you flipped the screws around so the heada were on top, there would be less of a chance to snag them on something in the back pack. _________________ --Howard

Cought me there! Actually the plan was to saw the ends of the bolts off. you see, there´s a second set of nuts inbetween the wood and the rack ears (the holes in the wood are slightly wider at that end for this purpose). My idea was that this was the best ballance between not sticking out and still being able to take it off without needing tools.
After your comment I veriefied and it turns out the wingnuts could actually still turn if kept at the other side of the rack ears. i´m going to reverse those now and also make room to sink the bolts at the other end too for even less stuff sticking out!
thanks! _________________ Kassen |

Ok! after half a minute with my trusty hand-drill and some screwing I´m now on version 8.31 of my plan which i´m going to declare "final". no more bits that stick out, no tools needed to place and remove the cover and way more efficient then the original idea which involved a little suitcase and lots of soldering. _________________ Kassen |

You could screw a little carrying handle to the side of the wooden frame so you could carry it around with one hand. It will add a tiny bit of weight but it might be worth it. _________________ --Howard

Yes, I considdered that too, but even with a handle it wouldn´t be a good thing to carry around by itself because it´s still vulnerable to weather and dirt and stuff. That´d mean having a handle just to cary it from the bag to the table which probably isn´t worth the weight. I think I´ll take it along like this for a gig or two, then have a evaluation. I might try a canvas handle which does not add weight or cost space worthy of consideration if it turns out I need it. _________________ Kassen |
