Hi all.

Planning on attending the electro-music festival for the first time this year, and hoping to participate in some of the jam sessions, maybe the laptop battle... (maybe 'In C' also??), and trying to get a sense for what to expect.

For the laptop battle, it appears that basically anything goes (laptop or no laptop, additional instruments / controllers, prepared material vs. on-the-fly), as long as you're on and off in 10 minutes. Correct?

For the jam sessions, I've gathered that typically some sort of PA is provided, and people just need to bring a means of patching in, and headphones or similar for monitoring?

Any other tips or advice or kind words for a newbie?

Cheers,
adam / onewayness

For the jams, yes, a PA is provided, please bring your own cables. headphones are not necessary, at least in all of the jams I have participated in.

Someone usually tries to start off each jam. Whether it is leading, or following, or getting out of the way after that, depends on how the jam goes. Wink

I'll leave it to others to explain the laptop "battle" but you seem to have the basic concept.

See you in Huguenot!

@interloper: I'm sure the short answer is "everything"... but what are volunteers currently needed for?

Haha! If you are comfortable running a mixing board, there are always half day slots available. I suggest that one, only because I sometimes wind up doing several.

Monitoring the outgoing Internet stream is another that's run in shifts. Someone can show you how.

If you plan to stay over Sunday after the last performance, tearing down usually needs some hands. I have to work Monday morning, so I usually skip this one.

My favorite job was testing the beer kegs in 2007, but I don't think we are doing kegs any more.

I am sure that Greg knows of some other open slots as well.

Take care. Looking forward to meeting you Very Happy

I think I feel pretty confortable with any of those duties. Especially keg tester. Wink Wink

Looking forward to meeting you too. And hearing about this Scrabble-to-MIDI idea of yours. Smile
