Welcome Stillstream.com to Electro-Music |
|
|
Stillstream is joining forces with electro-music and becoming a second radio station here at electro-music.com.
We will be moving stillstream.com over to the electro-music.com server through the month of August. Joe McMahon will be taking over the wheel for Darrell and becoming an admin here as Stillstream and Electro fuse into something bigger and brighter for both.
Thank you Howard Moscovitz, Joe McMahon, and most importantly Darrell Burgan for keeping this community and music going for the last 6 years! _________________ ElectroCasa Last edited by shanemorris on Wed Sep 21, 2011 9:11 am; edited 1 time in total |

Kudos to Darrell for an absolutely stellar job developing Stillstream into an amazing presence on the internet for music lovers to come together and share the gifts and talents of so many!!!!
I am delighted that Darrell and Howard have been able to develop a plan keep Stillstream available. It is a wonderful community. It is great that Joe will be able to bring his expertise and talents to carry Stillstream into the future.

I think this is a wonderful thing, both for StillStream and electro-music.com. I'm certainly both relieved and excited. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

From Darrell Burgan:
The Future of StillStream
Okay just in case anyone missed it, StillStream will not be going
away. It will be transitioning to new ownership. Howard Moscovitz and
Shane Morris electro-music.com and Joe McMahon (a Different Skies
artist and developer extraordinaire) stepped up to the plate to take
on ownership of StillStream.
And so, effective immediately, StillStream.com is their site, not
mine. They will be making all future decisions regarding the direction
of the site and they will be handling all aspects of hosting it,
supporting it, enhancing it, updating the content, etc. In short, I
will be transitioning to being nothing more than an SS listener with
no stake in SS whatsoever other than being part of the community.
I will not speak for them, but I will tell you a few things that I know:
1. SS will become part of the electro-music.com family and community,
another feature that EM offers its audience. Exactly how that works
and what end users see is totally up to Howard, Shane, and Joe. But
there is a ton of synergy between EM and SS and so I think it is a
great thing that SS is becoming an EM place.
2. The old StillStream server will be going away. SS will be hosted
instead on the same equipment that currently runs EM. This will
probably not affect you much but there might be some technical changes
here and there that are noticeable to you.
3. Joe (in coordination with the EM tech folks) is going to take over
all things technical for StillStream.
4. Joe/Howard/Shane will almost certainly be making changes to the SS
site and content. I have no idea what those changes will be, but I am
certain they will be great.
5. There may be some changes as far as the licensing rules go. Again,
Shane/Howard/Joe will make all decisions because they are assuming
liability to ASCAP/BMI/SESAC/SoundExchange for any licensing
violations. For now, I would follow the existing licensing rules and
use the existing repository, until you hear differently from the new
ownership, and please support their approach to licensing the same
diligent way that you have supported mine.
6. There will be a transition period over the next several weeks, as
we work to move the hosting over to the new equipment and handle all
the details of this change. Please be patient with the new owners and
with me as we work through this process.
In general, there are likely to be things that change the nature of SS
to one extent or another, and some of these changes may affect you. I
know that change can be disruptive sometimes but I strongly encourage
all of you to support and help Joe/Shane/Howard as they take SS
forward into its future. I know all three of them personally. They are
super talented people and great human beings who I trust implicitly to
make SS an even better thing in the future. And I also encourage you
to become active in the EM community. SS is no longer an island; it is
literally part of EM now and so I encourage you to dive in and fully
immerse yourself into the EM community and meet everyone there, if you
have not already.
I am sure there will be lots of questions, and certainly there are
still many decisions to be made. I would encourage you to talk
directly with Shane and Joe and Howard as well as me if you have any
questions. Again, my role is now one of transition and supporting the
new owners, so I may not have a lot of answers. But I will do my best.
Smile
Cheers,
Darrell _________________ ElectroCasa |

Greetings all!
As you all likely know by now, Stillstream has a new home and is in no jeopardy of closing. Now the work begins! We almost immediately started the process of transferring Stillstream over to the electro-music.com server and have been running since we hit the ground.
As we make this historic transition over the next few weeks, I must request one thing. Please be patient with us as we switch things over, develop our working plan, and generally figure out what we are doing next. We are sailing uncharted waters at this point and we are just taking it day by day, issue by issue right now. Please remember that Stillstream actually was closing, but at a near 11th hour, we came up with a way to preserve the station. Thus, we did not have any plan before, we are somewhat improvising now, and we are doing the best we can to make this transition as smooth as possible.
Submissions for music to Stillstream radio are currently closed as we make the transition. We are literally moving the entire stillstream library and public archive (trust me its large), and adding to it right now is not a good option until we are re-organized on the other side of this move.
The Stillstream you know and love will continue to look and operate in much the same way as it has been. We are not going to "re-invent the wheel" here for the station. However, as with all things in life, there will be some changes to come. Don't expect these to be dramatic changes, but do expect that things are going to morph a bit as Stillstream and electro-music join forces.
We are getting an abundance of email from all sectors of people related to Stillstream and I want to say thank you to everyone for their concern, interest, and passion for this unique station. Many questions simply cannot be answered presently at this time, and I personally would rather not speculate on things. Please remember that stillstream was essentially a one-man show with Darrell and making executive decisions was relatively easy for him. Stillstream is now a team of people (yes it takes 3 normal humans to equal one Darrell Burgan) and as we refine and define the direction of the station we will be sure to keep everyone posted.
There has also specifically been numerous questions regarding the Stillstream repository of music. At this point, we are examining the legal ramifications of the current operation and weighing out the pros and cons and it's effects on the new owners. Things may change. Things may not change. That is all I can reasonably say at this time. As soon as we have made a decision, I will be sure to let you know. However, I do want to say that Creative Commons licensed music is the heart of Stillstream radio and will continue to compose a strong core of the station. Again, please be patient with us as we work out these issues.
In the meantime, please continue to enjoy the wonderful programming at Stillstream radio, the terrific live shows, downloads from our public archive, and great conversation in the Stillstream chatroom. Good things to come!
Oh...and one last final note, Wally is doing fine. He is happy about moving to a new home and is excited about making friends with the other bots at electro-music.com.
Onward!!!

Thanks for posting Darrell's note and for your explanation of what's been going on. It should help SS and E-M communities understand what's up with the merger.
Steve
PS: Don't tell the RIAA about the merger, or they might feel so threatened they might try to get the U.S. government to ban free music on the internet or to tax streaming radio stations! |

Thank you for the warm welcome! |
|
|
Hi, guys. I'm notorious for not saying much on these forums (member for six years, not even two dozen posts yet!) but I felt I had to stop by and thank everyone for the warm welcome and the hugely helpful response we have received since Darrell made the decision to hand off Stillstream.
My show, Spiral, runs for two hours (sometimes more) on Sunday nights in the USA / early Monday morning in Europe / Monday afternoon in Asia and the Pacific; the show starts at (deep breath)
0200 Monday GMT
2200 Sunday EST
2100 Sunday CST
2000 Sunday MST (my local time zone)
1900 Sunday PST
...with the usual adjustments for the changing seasons, unless you live in Arizona or Indiana.
It's a weird and eclectic mix of all kinds of ambient and near-ambient music, perhaps with a bit more emphasis on the melodic / rhythmic end of things than other shows. I love float, drone, and noise, and make them myself, but I don't want to only play them when it's my turn on the air!
I also feature live music when I can; guest artists are welcome to play while I host, I do live ambient improvs called "rants" now and again, and I host local ambient artist Mystery Bubble whenever there's an opportunity.
I know that sometimes schedules clash and that Sunday night / early Monday isn't the easiest time for many folks to be kicking back and spinning ch00nz, but if you happen to be in my neighborhood, stop in and say hello in the chat room, I'd love to see you.
Keep smiling -- and remember, at Spiral, we're not happy until you're not happy!
No. Wait. What?
