Finally got around to dumping my old demo songs onto Youtube - enjoy or not Cool

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHcftmANc4k

Everything is from the Andromeda, even the drums!
All fired live over midi with the multi mode. No processing used except for the onboard effects.

There is only one Andromeda used, even though the pics show two Smile

More to come - mainly just all the demo sounds I did a while back. There is a ton of em!

I´ve heard most of them hundreds of times before, and still hear them from time to time for inspiration.

Actually, your A6-mp3:s was one of the reasons I realised the potential of the A6 and bought the synth in the first place some 5+ years ago!

I never thanked you then for that, so I do it now instead! THANKS! Very Happy

Audio Montage clip is up - trying to be a little more creative video wise Twisted Evil

pads, drones, things and FX
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yszjVmPWGOo

Just a collection of my fav banks/patches from the Alesis site, way back then, somehow seemed to fit together when I played them in that order Cool

Youtube auto tag suggestion somehow came up with - horror, psychedelic keyboard "synthesized music Laughing
Does it actually scan the audio and video content? hmmmmmm

I was playing around with a hard sync patch I did and I somehow managed to turn it into a basic physical modelled wind instument patch Cool

If you play on the top end of the range it sounds like a whistle/flute/recorder, the middle kinda like an oboe and clarinet. Low end a bit like French horn etc

I'll get an audio clip of it one day - would be even better if I can use some pedals and breath controller on it Smile

This patch was originally creating a convincing string/guitar type pluck sound, so it's pretty interesting how I was able to do another subset of sounds just by changing the amp and filter envelope

Here is a quick audio clip I whiped up of my PM attempts on my Alesis Andromeda Smile

It has lost a lot of fidelity compared to the original 24 bit 96 kHz files.
Even the 16 bit 44 kHz intermediate file had a lost a lot of top end
http://soundcloud.com/coolcolj/alesis-andromeda-plucked

Bare in mind they are very basic - not much modulation going one for expressions etc
But they serve as a nice template for further experimentation

I own a Yamaha VL-1 although I haven't done too much on it
Although I think the analog tone of the Andromeda feels a bit more cosy Smile

The click/thump on the string attack is a bit annoying, I can't seem to remove it no matter what I do Slower engine optimiser settings don't help much

Here are the patches in Sysex format
MidiOX is a good program to use to send them to the Andromeda

Plucked string and hi wind

If someone improve on them, please pass on the goods Smile

2 patches I did recently - straight from the A6 into my audio interface, using the main outs. One untouched, the drone one has Lexicon chamber reverb. Filters in series, but only the 12DB filter is doing the work.
This gives you the Yamaha type sound, maybe a bit of Korg too Smile

I had both oscillators turned off at the mixer, and the filter is up, but no resonance.
But a sound is still made when you route VCO1 to modulate Filter FM.
VCO1 modulated by the Sample and Hold, via a slow random LFO

Shocked

Horror Drone experiment on the Andromeda

http://soundcloud.com/coolcolj/alesis-andromeda-horror-drone

I created 4 variants of the sound and changed patches as the things progressed along.

Turned on filter feedback here and there. You'll know when I do so Wink

Just has some A6 delay and Lexicon exterior type reverb[

Some new sounds, I did them to demo the LFO options to someone, but they sound cool anyway Smile

This sound uses both filters in series, but the 12db SEM filter doing all the filtering, and with filter feedback at 50%
Oscillators set very low on the pre filter mixer
http://soundcloud.com/coolcolj/andromeda-lfo-jam

Saw Pad Vibrato - single saw VCO, long release free running LFO vibrato
http://soundcloud.com/coolcolj/alesis-andromeda-saw-pad

Andro CS pad - variation of above, I got carried away and ended up here Smile
This time with 2 VCOs, 1 postive saw, and one negative - an old trick from the Minimoog to create a phase cancellation and make it sound like Pulse Width Modulation. Some white noise

12db SEM Low pass filter, and a little Band pass filter into the 24db Moog filter at 12 Khz
Then the VCO sine waves mixed in post filter ala Yamaha CS synths

Just a quick rough test, proof of concept

Minimoog, SH-2 and Andromeda tracked live into Presonus Studio one.
The Minimoog and SH-2 went through the Speck Xtramix first, while the Andromeda went directly into the audio interface

And then "mixed" in the box with a reverb on the Andromeda, and delay on the SH2. Minimoog is dry.
64 bit mode. No EQ or compression. Off line render to wav file
I've never worked like this before. I used to be all midi, fired live.

Andromeda sits pretty well with these other two 70s vintage monosynths.
I used one of the "Yamaha CS" type patches I did a few weeks back.

Although having all three at once gobbles up all the mix space! Smile

Here is an A6 and JP8 duet that just happened straight after I turned them on one day, and started playing - happy accident Razz

A6 does the sequenced thing, JP8 the weird lead

Here's one for you...

Done with a bunch of synths. The lead and sweeping pads are Andromeda:

There's more on Youtube:

These 2 guys have a load of Andromeda vids up. They were good enough to convince me to get one!

I have found the Andromeda's oscillators have a tendency to lock to each other and phase cancel.
A byproduct of the too accurate auto tuning perhaps, which tunes every octave on the board.
So even when you detune then oscillators they still don't sound quite right.

Contrast that with old analog synths which usually have a single scaling trim pot for the whole keyboard range.
And they are never tight because of that, the top and bottom of the keyboard is always out a bit, but they sound better for it.

Here is a way to get that creamier sound out of the A6 - knock the scaling out by modulating oscillator pitch with key number!
+0.02, with an offset of -0.01 does the trick

as heard here Smile
But Soundcloud's processing did some weird crap to the audio :/

Gorgeous Arpeggiator sequence on the Alesis Andromeda!
http://soundcloud.com/coolcolj/a6-gorgeous-arp-sequence

I've been experimenting with using the red noise to oscillator linear FM, and it adds a lot of life to the sound, without wasting an LFO to do the same. Around 0.5 to 0.75 is enough. The difference is pretty dramatic, suddenly the oscillators don't sound "static" anymore
Latched arpeggiator sequence.

A single PWM oscillator, then doubled up in the middle, and then back to single. 24db Moog filter used. The delay is also from the Andromeda.

Piano'ish A6 tone - I get a lot on interesting tones using the oscillator sync and 12db filter. Most of my quasi acoustic sounds use that combo

http://soundcloud.com/coolcolj/alesis-andromeda-mellow-groove

I did this test clip a decade ago, to try out the Andromeda with other synths.

I didn't intend it to, but it ended up sounding like a Boards of Canada track Smile
I've always felt the Andromeda has that ethereal BOC quality without any processing and I guess this is proof of that

The bass and pad sound is Andromeda.
The drums is an unreleased drum synth VST. There is a TX416 lead sound, using one TX module. Basically a DX7

And some MKS-80 rev5 strings
