Remember that wood is an very good thermal insulator. With your amazing cabinet, the heat generated inside can only be conducted away through the front panels, and that is assuming you won't be covering those with wood as well.
Adding to this is that your panels are tilted back, making it even more difficult to cool the inside through them.
For that reason putting the PSU inside the case may be asking for trouble, depending on how it is designed (linear, switched mode) and how much power you expect the completed synth to draw. |

heat is a good point. I will have to take some measurements once the cab is full though and then see if i need to add vents or not
My thanks to scrog productions for the idea for the power scheme
which i am still working on . It is a 18v-0-18v 300VA centre tapped torroidal feeding 8 x lm317/337 regulator boards [ only one is shown in pics ] via 2 x 35 amp bridge rectifiers and 4 x 18000uf caps
I expect to draw no more than 200-300mA max through each regulator so they should run pretty cool
I have also added a delay board to bring each reg board on line
one after another to limit the initial start up current. _________________ In an infinite universe one might very well

If you wish, then I wouldn't mind giving your PSU configuration the full, custom mad scientist analysis, assuming you haven't done so already. I believe this would be worthwhile in this case, given how much effort you have spent on the project.
If so, then please measure the copper resistances of the toroidal transformer, primary and total (across 36V) secondary. The secondary resistance in particular is likely to be quite low, so a rough value will be quite adequate.
Also, I assume you are using 2x 18'000 uF for smoothing each unregulated supply rail, 4 in total? |

a new track with my modular synth |
|
|
btw -- in case you didn't notice, I just posted a track from my DIY modular:
http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-51049.html
In particular, it showcases the some of the Yusynth filters: (the VCS filter clone, the Steiner filter clone, and the Fixed Filter bank). I also used the fonitronic Voltage-controlled Ring Modulator, and some CGS modules (Super Psycho Modulation Source, Wave shaper, Modulo magic), too. _________________ -- Kevin

A Modular is never Finished but . . . Subject description: mine has reached a sort of "that'll do for now" moment. |

Been building bits of this for about 2 years on and off I guess starting with an MFOS mini synth, then an MFOS 10 step, 3 VCOs, etc etc
Finally completed a case with 2 LFOs, a dual AR EG and a low pass filter around Christmas.
Planning to play with some CMOS/Lunetta bits to get some interesting beats (largely based on Bruce's You Tube Vid of his Quad bass and lunetta combo) next.
Then there's a Klee part made which needs finished and 2 or 3 Thomas Henry VCOs to make up.
Oh - and a Chaquo pcb on the way from the Bridechamber and an MFOS MFM to play with - and an Appendage board in a cupboard somewhere
So not finished - but it's reached a point where I'm kind of chuffed with it at last and enjoying playing with it!
