Hi all! I'm interesting which secret key combinations NM G1 has. And I also want to know does G1 has hidden modules like in G2?

Hi CJ,

welcome to the forum !

The hidden modules thing you can research yourself using a tool like ResHacker, just google on that word and you'll find it.

I did a search on my mail archive for the secret key thingy and found this interesting mail by someone called "jhno" from 1999-10-02.

jhno wrote:

first off, i am overjoyed that 3.0 is finally out. great work, clavia - !

i had a little problem with my nm last night, though. i thought i would
post it here because it includes handy information for recovering from a
nord modular that has crashed - which is exactly what happened.

i was at a gig, no less... got all set up on stage at this nice jazz club,
and turned on the modular. the led's blinked, then it settled down into a
frozen state with a patch name on the lcd screen, and no knob or button
producing any response whatsoever. the patch was one that i had written
earlier that day.

uh-oh.

good thing i could get by without it, because cycling the power did not
help. after the first set (which didn't go very well) i decided to reload
the 3.01 OS. fortunately, we had a long set break. using the update utility
on the mac, everything proceeded smoothly. i turned off the nm, then back
on - same problem! yipe!

i noticed that the patch name was still displayed. i thought, i wish i
could wipe the memory. so is started experimenting with key combinations,
and finally got it right - hold down shift and patch/load while powering on
the modular. the display will read INIT FLASH - WAIT! and it will erase all
your patches. zappo.

so now i power up again and it is not frozen! patch "no name" is loaded.
great. so i go to the modular editor to download some patches - and find
that it can not recognize the nm, because it has reverted to os 1.1 - !

so i dowload the OS yet again - and meanwhile the other players are coming
up on stage... 5 minutes or so of updating and this time it works. i power
up, run the editor, dowload a few patches, and we start playing...

the second and third sets went much better. :)

later i tried to open that patch i wrote on the computer - and the file
would not open, due to a "knob assignment error".

if anybody knows the .pch internals well enough to check it out, i could
send this broken patch. i should at least send it to clavia - it seems like
a potentially serious bug. it hosed my machine pretty thoroughly.

...must be something about this band i am playing with. last gig we had, i
dropped my jomox drum machine and it went dead. i eventually borrowed a
screw driver and opened it up - the big IC chip had come loose, and was
hanging with half its feet in the air - ! reseated the chip, closed it up,
played the gig... nothing like on-site surgery.

nord on,
-jhno
