i'm interested in starting up another location for the EM festival here in Tucson, AZ.

There's a small, but very substantial, experimental music scene here locally, and if there's enough interest from here, i'm sure a fantastic event could be put together.

Anyone Interested?

That's a great idea.

suggestion: start with the locals there and put together a event to be broadcast live on the radio here on electro-music.com.

btw- there is a festival about 3 hours north of you in Arcosanti, AZ.
Different Skies. maybe touch base with the organizers and the local artist who attend that every year.

its always good to network with folks who are moving in the same direction.

i personally have family out in AZ. and would love to set up a visit and attend a e-m fest while out there.

Awesome!! Very Happy

Good advice! i'm planning on doing just that!! i'm also looking for a way to possibly combine this with a local art festival that has the theme of working with light. Meaning, all the artwork incorporates light in the pieces.

i didn't know about the festival you mentioned. Thank you! i'm sure something interesting could be done here easily, i was just needing at least someone from here to be interested.

It would be freakin cool to see/hear you play under the desert sky!!

Hi, just a quick note to let you know that I'm following this thread and, schedule permitting, would be interested in this festival. All the best!

I'd be interested in participating. Summer works best for my schedule or over Christmas break... so the 12/21/12 would work.. and wow what a cool thing that would be. You might talk to Kati Astreair at Solar Culture and see if they would want to host if you need ideas for that.

Go for it! I'm too far away to participate in person, but I'd like to follow the progress of this, and I'd be interested in remote participation if you include that. Smile

Thanks for your interest!!

I've been trying to get local acts involved, but been having difficulties (you know how sleepy this town can be sometimes). There's another experimental promoter i'm waiting for a response from that may be able to help.

i have a GREAT location lined up, where there's sleeping accommodations, lots of land, art installations, things to do etc, only problem is getting the acts motivated.

BUT..........
We've been thinking of re-locating to the Bay Area this Summer.
This would put us much closer to an experimental hotbed, and there shouldn't be as many problems as here in the desert, and i can find more people to help,
cuz i CANT do this alone.

Would you still be interested if it was in the Bay Area (Oakland or SF)?
Cuz if there's enough support, we could put together something really fun!!

The location won't matter to me, because it'll be too far away regardless, but count me in to help with online promotion. Cool

The bay area would be a great place for an electro-music Festival. I have been trying to set one up there for several years, but haven't been able to pull it off yet. If you would like to do a bit of the organizing I'm sure we could pull it off.

Very Happy AWESOME!! Very Happy
All smiles over here!!
The West Coast definitely needs an em fest.
Very, Very Cool.....

With you on board, Howard, i'd feel much more confident that it could be a success.

i have some experimental friends and artists in the Bay area, i'll start contacting them and see if they can help.

-Cool, Magnetic!!

I dn't have any specific ideas - I'm just willing to help spread the word, and, if you include it, participate remotely.

If I think of anything, though, I'll speak up. I'll be following this thread.

With our daughter Sierra living in Oakland now, I'd be thrilled to piggy-back this onto a a tentatively planned drive out there in the summer. I've got two summer conferences to attend elsewhere, one in Vegas, will keep my eyes on this thread Cool

FWIW, there are a lot of festivals in the Bay Area already. At least 2 Electronic Music Festivals, Noise Fest, Loopfest, and any number of showcases that happen monthly, quarterly and so forth.

I have scoped places to do a festival, but I am afraid the cost will be much higher than the kind of attendance we would likely receive. Ideally, it would be helpful to patronize the events going on already. With so many, they are competing for support as it is.

Here are some resources to check out for local Electronic / Experimental events:

Ah, thanks for checking into it Jack. Smile
You're probably right about cost vs. attendance.
A friend did some checking as well on places, and there'd definitely need to be a substantial turnout (which there aren't that many Western e-mers....
But i'll run a poll in a few months to check.

The idea to tie in/support these other festivals is a good one.
i'll look into that Smile

The Music Center in the Mission is a great place that can be rented for a few hundred a night if you want to do something smaller

Yes, I've been there. Maybe a small event is best for a start.
