My Nord is making weird sounds when I press its keys. I've uploaded a sample MP3 in which I'm playing the synth on one of its electric piano patches (1.75), but if you listen you'll hear that that's clearly not the only sound being output. The other sound is scratchy and goes in and out. This phenomenon isn't exclusive to this patch, either. Can anyone tell me what this indicates? What can be done to get my baby back in tip top shape? Thanks very much.

Benji

Did you change anything before it occured, like changing Midi set up?
Have you opened the hood already and checked all connecting cables inside [see http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/020_NordLead2/Red_Lady/Index_bestanden/Red_Lady/Weighted_part_2.htm item 2]?

Hi Benji,

Given those kinds of symptoms I think it is safe to say that there is a hardware problem. The nature of those kinds of things is such that it is very difficult to offer any specific diagnosis long distance. That judgment will be best left up to the competent electronics tech who has it open on her or his bench.

The possibilities range from a degraded solder connection on ne or more legs of a component part to a component part being in the early stages of failure. In these types of situations, it is not likely that reloading OS will have any effect.

You have also contacted me at my regular work email address and I'm responding from there as well, but am posting here for general reference purposes for the Nord community at large. Users worldwide experiencing these kinds of problems (first ever such report I've had on an NL2X in my 2+ years at this, btw) are encouraged to contact the Nord distributors in their respective countries for possible repair referrals. In the US and Canada, that's me.

Bless,

Pablo Mastodon

Thank you both for your responses. I haven't opened it. I'm a bit nervous to do so. I'm considering it, however, as Pablo let me know there aren't any Nord-authorized repairs shops near me... Still trying to decide how best to proceed.
