Indianapolis Regional EM Festival 2012 |
|
|
Indianapolis Electronic Music Group (IEMG) now has solid home again at the Irving Theater. The owner of the Irving is excited about hosting a Regional EM festival. As we enter into the planning stages I'd like to get some feedback from folks.
The Festival will feature live and streaming video performances, workshops and seminars.
1. Would you be interested in attending a 2 day or 2 1/2 day festival in Indianapolis, IN?
2. What time of year would you prefer?
3. Would you prefer
A. Friday evening, Saturday Day and evening
B. Saturday and Sunday
C. Friday evening, Saturday Day and evening, Sunday
4. If you are unable to attend, would you be interested in doing a streaming video performance from your location?
5. As an attendee, would you be interested in seeing/hearing large screen streaming remote performances at the festival in addition to the regular live performances?
Thanks for your input. _________________ Charles Shriner

I think you mean 2012 btw, unless you plan on getting this together in the next 3 weeks...

Yes!

May? August? November?

Any of the above work for me.

Dude, I can't even stream *audio* from my location.

Meh. I'd watch it, but it wouldn't really excite me terribly I don't think.

Yes, indeed!
2. What time of year would you prefer?
Spring or Summer (winter is ok however there is a risk of poor road/driving conditions)
3. Would you prefer
A. Friday evening, Saturday Day and evening
B. Saturday and Sunday
C. Friday evening, Saturday Day and evening, Sunday
B. Saturday (day and evening) and Sunday until 5pm.
4. If you are unable to attend, would you be interested in doing a streaming video performance from your location?
5. As an attendee, would you be interested in seeing/hearing large screen streaming remote performances at the festival in addition to the regular live performances?
Don't have an opinion on items 4 and 5.
Great of you to add Indy to the ever-growing list of regional electro-music festivals! _________________ -- Kevin

Any time of year. Not partial to any combination of days.

I would definitely be unable to attend, so yes!

Considering my answer to #4, I think that's only fair. I would definitely watch streamed performances. _________________ There's an invisible radio gnome playing a gong from a flying teapot - don't miss out! |

Cool, Charles!
I am interested, any combination of 2 or 3 days in the summer. Too hard to schedule during a semester or winter break. Other than that, it all depends on other travel plans, probably two conference trips, and a trip out to visit my daughter in the Bay Area. I always figure I'll only be able to make the Kansas City event if we also have a cross-country drive planned to my daughter's, but Indianapolis I can do in a day.
Two logistical questions, since I am very tentatively thinking about doing a 2-day regional event in our planetarium summer of 2013 or 2014:
Are you doing anything about lodging, or are visitors just doing their own? (We might be able to get cheap dorm rooms if I plan an event here.)
Related question: Beer / wine allowed on site, or not? (I don't know our campus rules about visitors + booze on campus, but it's something I have to investigate. Probably the answer for my site would be, visit the bars a block away.)
Take care. _________________ When the stream is deep

Preferably not in the same month as another electro-music festival:
January (Mallorca)
March (Egypt?)
May (Asheville)
July (Kansas City)
September (NY)
I hope to come, if I can. Days of the week - doesn't matter. Two days, instead of three might be best the first time around.
The video streaming could be interesting - don't know how well it will work, but it's worth a try as this may be a trend of the future. Keep it to a limited number and make it two-way if possible, to allow some interaction with the audience. Otherwise it will be like watching youtube clips. _________________ www.gregwaltzer.com |

But if it were in the same month as another festival, wouldn't that hurt attendance? _________________ There's an invisible radio gnome playing a gong from a flying teapot - don't miss out! |

Thanks to everybody for your interest and input.
This is not a confirmation. This is where things stand at the moment.
I'll be talking to the venue owner and working out details and times. He has made it clear that he wants this festival to happen. So it's just a matter of time and logistics.
Based on feedback from folks (here and elsewhere) I think the best month to do the Indy electro-music festival will be on a Friday evening (6pm - 2am) and Saturday (noon - 2am) August 2012.
Bars, grocery, coffee shops, restaurants, shops are all within walking distance.
A number of local folks are willing to provide people with places to stay for 1 or 2 nights. It may be possible for attendees to sleep on site.
More as things develop.

OK, it's official. Indianapolis Regional electro-music Festival will be Aug. 17th and 18th 2012. If you are interested in performing please respond with your name and email address.
I will be sending out details about food, housing, workshops etc after the first organizational meeting.
At this point we have 10 committed musical performers. We will be able to accommodate as many as 25.
Thanks

Main stage performances will be Fri. 6pm-1am and Saturday 6pm-1am with collaborations scheduled as needed on the second stage throughout the event. Workshops, seminars and spontaneous collaborations will be from 11am to 6pm on Saturday.

I just moved to La Porte, IN so this is not a terribly long distance for me. I'll have to look into coming down for this!
