Hi,

I'm completely new to Nording and have a project about drum triggers and nord G2x. Actually i want to do a "Tribute to Duracell", a man who triggered his drum into a G2. I ring him on the phone, he says that this will be a little bit difficult, but no matter !

The fact that is i've a new patch, but there is no sound at all : Any one can tell me why ? (I guess it's just a beginner error ; shame on me ... )

I have drum triggers, they go into the g2 as "audio in", i try to put in sequencer with notes. When i hit the drum in the patch, the step of te sequencer goes into the next step, but then, no sound to my headphone.

Thank you for any reponse.

welcome tiptap

what do you have on the R input? as that is the signal that goes through the filter and should become audible ...

Hi blue hell,

Sorry, but i've misunderstanding your question ... i'm really completely new to nording ... Crying or Very sad it'll take time to do what i want with a G2.

The right input is linked with a filter nord and then a 2 out module.

What I meant is what have you plugged in into the G2 externally on the R input; you now have a filter, which on its own will not make a sound but it will change a sound that comes in, and your external signal goes to the filter ...

ok .. maybe just replace the filer with an oscillator, then you will have sound.

Thank you,

I know i must do ti myself, you opened my eyes about filters, it can make change sound only if a signal comes in this types of modules.

I've plugged a drum pad as audio in to the phsysical inputs of my g2, but i'm not sure it's a good reponse ...

I must read more consciouscly my manual before asking questions ...

Hi Tiptaptempo,

Here is an example on the NMG2 Demo version.
So I had to replace your Audio in module with an FX in module. But you will catch my drift.
Have fun.

Hi Roland,

That's such an honor to have a reply from you ! i believe i had reading one of your very complete blog to the nord modular. It stills fresh and hard for me, because of english language and technical requirements.

The patch you sent me works a little better, thank you, I replaced the Fx in module by ""Audio in module. It reacts, but not properly as i was expecting.

It makes a sound like when you hit with your finger a dynamic microphone shure sm 57.
I use a electronic pad (type of cheap yamaha) ,
I think i must use preamplification to have the note sound.
I'll use snare triggers with accoustic drum tomorow.

My main objective with my recent G2 is to dedicate a tribute to Andre Duracell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QfwKqy3LyY

I'll reach the top ! one day for sure even if it looks Shocked to me ...

Thank you for the link with the video. Now it is clear for me what you trying to accomplish. You can have a look at this patch and try to adjust it to your needs. The triggering can be done by external audio, midi note or event sequencer.

Hi Rob,

Thank you for this help,
I replaced "Fx in" by "2 in", I've a cheap drum pad that i linked in the "audio in" physical nord output. It makes sound but still not like as i was expecting .

I'm reading all your posts to have a better feel of digital sound synthesis.
Then i might post such cleverer questions about Triggers.

Hi Roland,

The patch you sent me is great, but a litte hard level for me.
Here is a personal patch, more simple, I'd like to asking you ( maybe others) something about triggering and this patch.

In this patch, i used a Kbd Gate linked to a level sequencer and Osc+Env=2out : basic.
When i hit the key of the synthesizer it greatly works.

Then i tried to replace the Keyboard module ( section "in/out") by a "2 in" module. I've got a snare drum trigger into the physics audio in of the g2.
It don't react, and i'm asking me why ?

The 2 in module is what you need to get audio signal into your patch.

Audio is not very suitable for trigger. One solution would be to connect the "2 in" output to a logic pulse module, then use the pulse output to step the sequencer. Experiment with pulse time to get best results.

You should be able to use amplifier modules to boost the signal from the "2 in" if required.

HI !

Thanks for answering, : Surprised
I tried, it not reacts, or i can't make it on my own correctly, at least for now.
Maybe it's because the Logic Pulse only admits a logic signal (yellow) and my "2 in" module is a bipolar (red) signal ?
So do i must pick a module who converts signals ?

Looks like a small amount of noise is setting the pulse on full time.
See attached to add a small negative offset or you could try the gate signal on the P-TRK module, I think it is intended for this type of thing.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your help, my G2x's seller had build a patch in this style, i've found in the patch bank. I've checked a litlle bit more and found the answer. Now it greatly reacts when i hit my snare drum. I can't try now with my bass drum but i 'm gonna do as soon as possible.

You can download the patch, it's like that :

2 in / Env follow / Compare to signal / Constant value / then seq / osc / env / 2 out.

I don' really how it works ... but i'm gonna learn.

for now i' ve again one question ... can(t find any help in the manual, i sorry t's too scientifical for me now :

Question 1 / When i hit my snare drum, it only "flags" or "triggs" the "high" notes, all the bass notes don't react. Question

not really a simple machine ....

Your patch has the envelope trigger connected to the blue 'note out' of the sequencer. It needs to be connected to the yellow 'trigger/gate out'. You will need to adjust the attack decay times because the trigger is a very narrow pulse. You might get a better result using and AHD envelope where you can adjust the note length with the H knob.
Another way to deal with the note length issue might be to use a foot switch so that a note holds till you take your foot off the switch but I never tried that.

I adjusted the trigger. Replace this little drums with your audio in module.

Hi Roland,

I'm gonna order your Sound Lab I e book this week ... Too much things to understand as a simple drummer ...

Do you think that your E book will help me for this particular project ?

I prepare my coffee ...

I would like also to ask something about velocity.
A the point of my project, when i hit the snare or bass drums it works fine and it reacts with the note sequencer. Now this is time for adjusting with velocity.

I hear it's can be done with a logic delay and a sample and hold module ?

Hi tiptaptempo,

You don't have to buy my book only for this project, or to get an answer.
This week i'm building a new web site for my books etc.
But a cup of coffee, would be nice Smile
I extended the pch with a little gain controller. Now modulated by the pattern gen and set by a level mixer. And you can choose the env follower too. This mod signal goes to the Amp in of the Env Gen. However, you can decide to use a Lev Mod module instead.
