Hello !!

I'm building a step sequencer and want to share with those who are interested.
With the help of schematics found on the internet, I breadboarded a nice
working sequencer.
With a 555 clock generator, the cgs24 gate to trigger converter and the 4017 baby10 based sequencer.
I build a 3x8 step gate/trigger sequencer with electronic switch.
The pcb foil I made with the help of Sprint-Layout.
Didn't do the schematics, but I can show the pcb and front design.
Also I finished the aluminium front and working on the pcb.

Next update I hope it's finished !!

Chris.

looks great! can you chain them?

edit: nevermind, it's just one 4017, so obviously you can't Very Happy - still very cool!

Thanks Roglok !

The sequencer can be used as an:
3 x 8 steps (A-B-C)
1 x 16 and 1 x 8 steps (A+B and C)
1 x 24 steps (A+B+C)
The electronic switch does the work, sequencer is "yes" just the 4017.

Grt.

Hey, that sounds interesting. Would you mind to share some details how it works?

Here is the schematic of the switch.
The pcb i posted works fine !!

CV or gate output from sequencer goes in switch A, B and C
Puls out from sequencer goes in pulse input from switch.
Eveytime the switch get a pulse, it steps to the next input.

Grt,
Chris

Is that switch (S1) labelled backwards? I would think reset on pin 7 would give you A+B+C and reset on pin 4 would give you A+B ??

Looks to me like you could use the individual pulse outputs to drive a bank of CV pots, similar to Baby 10. It's not clear to me whether those are selectable for a specific bank (A/B/C) or would be the gate of an OR of the three banks, but either way that seems like it could be used that way.

I'm still not sure I see how that switch can work.

Is there some way that the pulse from the sequencer is only triggering after an entire bank is complete? i.e. we step through the 8 steps of Bank A and then pulse, 8 steps of Bank B and then Pulse, and then (if not reset thanks to the spdt switch) 8 steps of Bank C and then Pulse?

I would have expected the pulse to be happening on each step.....

Elmegil, that is what it does !

And if you stack all the pulse outputs of the sequencer into the trigger in from the electronic switch, it switches 8 times in a bank.

Grt,
Chris

So where does that pulse at the end come from? It's not a standard thing in the Baby 10.... ?

Hello !!

Here is a short demo of the Gate Sequencer, it triggers a 909 Bass Drum Clone.
This is just a test run, it's not completely finished yet.

Nice work, KRS - looks good.
I'm building a similar project now - 3x8, chainable, clock dividers, etc. My chaining switch is based on the exact circuit you posted.

That book is called Sound Synthesis, from 1990.
It is the source of the original "Baby 10" sequencer schematic, as well. Great book, full of useful ideas, schematics, and layouts... also chock full of so many horrible, horrible schematic mistakes, you'll be punching yourself in the face a lot if you build from it. Still - quite useful. I got it for $2 on the internet.

Best,
DM

P.S. Elmegil --
In answer to your question, the 'pulse' coming into the switch 4017 is just the 'end out' of the sequencer... which can be tapped from pin 15 (reset) of the sequencer 4017. The 4017 in the switch circuit is a different IC than the 4017 driving the 8 sequencer steps.

So - every time the sequencer resets back to the first step, it pulses the switch to the next channel.
