Subject description: Physical Modeling Synthesis possible?
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

I was wondering since the access virus synths use physical modeling synthesis to simulate an analog substractive synth, is it at all possible to trick/hack/reprogram the synth to acces physical modeling parameters and, say implement an physical modeling mode (or access a hidden mode for that, if present)? In short can a synth that uses physical modeling synthesis to generate a virtual analog structure be used as an actual physical modeling synthesizer? Just some food for thought. Smile

The Access Virus is not a Physical Modeling synth. The Virus isn't modeling anything really - it just does it's own thing. Some would class it as a Virtual Analogue though, which is natural since it uses the classic subtractive architecture.

It's not possible to access physical modeling parameters (since there are none) or implement a physical modeling mode in the Virus synthesizers - the supplied firmware represents a fixed "virtual analogue" architecture.

hej lostinpurdy,

the yamaha vl series can make to sound like 'analog synthisizers' but the virus cannot do physical modelling like drjustice already mentioned.

(you can make it sound like a wavetable synth but it is not a wavetable synthizers.)

howard scarr's virus programming tutorial which can be found on the access music site is a good starting point to learn which sounds/timbres can be made with the virus.
