3 jacks & smaller knobs are CV ins for Osc 1,2, and filter. really enjoying the sounds, think it will be a perfect playpal for little boy blue & jealous heart.

Have you installed buffered inputs for the rungle data and clock?
I put some schematics for doing that on my site here:

i don't know how i missed that page, but i've been planning on building another one with a lot of the same ideas. i've especially been wanting an option for an external clock on the rungler. thanks for the other ideas, great build!

I assume you saw the modular benjolin page?
http://casperelectronics.com/finished-pieces/benjolin/modular-benjolin/
I've found the extra outputs and inputs to be very useful.
The data input is especially useful. If you send NO data signal the rungle out is an 8 step loop. If you send -9Volts to the data in the rungle out is a 16 step loop. you can also do interesting stuff by sending one of the bits from one looping rungler into the data of another and make longer loops.

Thanks Pete! man I need to visit this forum a bit more..
I am actually going to remove this from its box and give it a proper panel with the mods (and maybe some more!) for inclusion in my next modular cabinet..
I do love Eric Archer style also, unfortunately its a little chaotic for my taste, to easy for things to get broken or a cable to get lodged in the wrong place and yank something broken permanently.. just my pref circuits are better protected by panel/case...

Here's mine, done over Easter weekend. I pulled all the outputs and inputs to bananas, and I'm very happy with the extra self-modulation/chaos possibilities. Also added ground to interface with modular and put red, blue and green LEDs for the Rungler bits. Oh yeah, and a speaker so I can make some money every time I ride the U-Bahn. Videos tomorrow on my website hopefully. Looking forward to building Casper-influenced double-Benjolin modular, or at least some shift-register-based, Rungler-type pseudo-randomizers. Until then...

cryptography (study I) from macumbista on Vimeo.

The "Cryptography Studies" examine the use of simple analog implementations of pseudo-random number generators, akin to those used in encryption algorithms, for the chaotic production of sound patterns. One of the simplest pseudo-random number generators is a three-stage shift register with a non-linear feedback loop, such as that found in Rob Hordijk's "Benjolin" instrument design.

This one was built over Easter weekend 2012 as a starting point for further research on the topic. I have focused on the chaotic zones which occur when new parameters have been set by the controls or feedback patching, before the machine settles into a steady state and predictable pattern.

You can read my extended musings on the relationship of cryptography and music here:

Some nice builds here, mine finally got a proper housing.

I built a Benjolin at the Worm workshop, 26 February 2011

When I was looking for a housing I decide to make a portable base unit that can be used for other (Home made, Circuit Bend) instruments.
I build the Benjolin, into a old tape deck housing with speakers together with a Philips sound-mixer and a guitar amp (crate profile 5), it has 3 channels one for the Benjolin one no-input-feedback mixer and one for anther build-in gadget (maybe a APC or radio device I don't know yet) for now its just a input and a knob to switch each channel to an external input.

I built a patch bay for audio in, sent and return and a patch bay for the CV ins and outs from the Benjolin and there is some room a few extra patchable potmeters. The audio is going thru the sound mixer (echo and and bass treble control) and thru the amp effects. A I am also planing to make a (mini)stereo mixer to the line in from the profiler 5. The profiler has a build in usb sound card.

And after al it is still a guitar amp so I can plug in my 'homeswinger" build in another workshop at Worm given by Yuri Landman.

A kind of super-Benjolin... “Catjar in the Rye” (or “Betty”, as she is know to her friends) is an experimental sound instrument built for Swedish composer Andreas Catjar. It combines a chaotic Benjolin synthesizer, extreme fuzz distortion unit, a speaker/contact-mic feedback system and “circuit-bending”-style body contacts into one rugged flightcase. The Benjolin features several modifications, including patchable routing banana jacks, LED lights for the three stages of its analog shift register and an external audio input.

My thanks go out to Rob Hordijk for providing this circuit, and to Pete Edwards/Casper Electronics for his help in working out the modifications.

macumbista

After the October 12, 2012 premier performance, maybe you could post an audio file here. I'd love to hear what that beautiful instrument sounds like.

Beautiful work... thumb up

Actually, I didn't notice the double-sided pro boards in this thread before, also curious of the source...

new zeitgeist. awesome audiofuckery. modified the board layout to allow for mounting the pots on the front or the back. NOTE: the footprint of the 1702 regulator is NOT THE SAME as a standard 7805... released some majic smoke finding that out, check your data sheets. gonna live with it for a bit, but may add an attenuator on the cv in, could use a little taming

My first venture into this particular forum!

Here's a dual benjolin I put together. In MOTM modular format.

Dual Benjolin front

Dual Benjolin profile

Dual Benjolin back

Not quite done yet, it still needs led drivers

Dual "Butterfly" Benjolin made for a customer. Two Benjolins cross-modulating is just about the best kind of chaos in the world! I have materials to make one more, pls get in touch if you are interested.

Finished a dual "Butterfly" Benjolin literally two hours before a trans-Atlantic flight to Texas. This one is mine, but I can make one for you if you ask real nice...
