Wanting short tones from 40106

Finished Lunetta #1 and hope to put a demo vid up soon. For my next one I want to be able to make short percussion type notes. How is this acheived as opposed to a drone?

there are a lot of ways this can be achieved but a simple one that comes to mind is triggering the V+ pin of a 40106.

an example could be a switch to V+ (or an external source) followed by a potentiometer in series attached to pin14, and a
capacitor to GND (probably something in the range of 100nF to 100uF). Different values will cause different attack/decay times.

vactrols instead of the pitch pot or maybe in series with the V+ pin can also create nice short bursts.

You could also gate your signal with an AND/NAND gate. If your signal is S and your gate G, then when G is high, G AND S will output S (meanwhile, G NAND S will output (NOT S) when G is low). With a short gate, you will get a short tone.
