Edited highlights (i.e. with nearby traffic noise removed) of a recording made in North Devon, in the woods surrounding Chelfham Station on the old Lynton & Barnstaple Railway line, while it was open to visitors during their gala weekend last September.

Recorded on a Zoom H2N, it's a 4 channel recording bumped down into stereo. The edits are perhaps a tad rough and ready, but not too noticeable (IMO). There are a couple of distant voices at a couple of points (sorry) and a bee makes a quick fly-by at 1:32 Very Happy

10 sec. fade in, 15 sec. fade out. No normalisation or other FX / processing applied.

Very nice recording!

Wanted to listen and was downloading the track which took a while and it then started before I really noticed .. so I looked out of my window to see what the heck that bird was singing so nicely :-)

How did you do the four to two channel conversion?

Thanks for the compliment - much appreciated Very Happy

For the 'mixdown': I just put both sets of recordings on separate stereo tracks in Audacity, Sync-Locked and edited them, then hit Export.

I'm happy to post the original M/S and X/Y files for people to play with, but there are two recordings totalling 38 mins, so that's about 750Mb (although the majority of the edit comes from the first one). Alternatively you can PM me with an e-mail and I'll send them by WeTransfer.

I have this h2n thingie as well, and always wondered what to do with four track files .. so they are actually recorded as two two channel pairs .. ok :-)

Instead of posting wavs you could post flacs too .. that'd reduce the amount of data by a fair amount while leaving all fidelity intact.

Last time I saved something as a flac, it came out slightly bigger than the wav Shocked

I think it was that rain & thunder recording. Maybe I was doing it wrong... Confused
