Emu Proteus/1 ROM's Subject description: any (innovative) new life for these? |
|
|
For quite some time I own a EMU Proteus/1. Many years ago I upgraded this machine, which involved removing two old ROM's for two new ones. Recently I stumbled upon these ROM's and wonder if there is way to make use of these e.g. access the stored samples. (I do assume they contain the original samples, but I can be very wrong!) I did write to EMU, but never got an answer
This is what's written on a sticker on the ROM's: IP459AEMU1090 and IP458AEMU1190 and on the other side: 27PC512 47696-06 Singapore.
I wonder also is there a way to test these IC's (2x14 pins, dual-in-line?) to find out what they really are. If needed I can upload a picture. Thanks in advance for any input!
Regards,

I tried to open my Proteus/1Plus Orchestral, but I couldn't figure out how. Is there a special tool?
As for E-Mu, they haven't really existed for a number of years, so it doesn't surprise me you didn't hear from them.
I am active in a couple of Yahoo Groups--one for the P2000 and one for the XL-7 and other command stations. Maybe there's a group for the Proteus/1 family that can help.
If you can tell me how to open mine up without cracking the case, I might give it a look.

Thanks for posting that!!! I have long wanted to see what was inside. If I do get around to opening it, I might try to take some pix--if it looks at all interesting. Glad you still had the installation manual.

The ROMs you have contain the old operating system for your Proteus.
Although they contain vital information about where the various sounds are stored, they do not contain the actual samples...these are stored in other ROMs inside the unit.
Since the ROMs you have are typically not reprogrammable, I'm not sure there would be much use for them otherwise. _________________ Visit my synth blog...Moogs and more!

Thanks for this information. So, indeed, of no use anymore. |
